SRL might have beat Floyd. The speed is very close. Floyd's reflexes a bit better. & SRL had the power. I do think that Floyd would be able to counter him effectively & possibly sting him. & Floyd's defense is better. It's really a toss up for me.
I hate Leonard more than any fighter in history-although I'm not a Mayweather fan either. But Floyd's naturally smaller and his resume certainly does not match Leonard's.Mayweather might be better defensively, but that's it.Mayweather's greatest advantage over anyone he's ever fought is his boxing IQ.He definitely does not have an advantage in that department here.Leonard by late tko.
The key is Leonard's superior offense. Look at how determined offensive fighters with handspeed were able to get through Floyd's defense (especially early, before he gets into a rhythm): Corley, Judah, Mosley. Prime Leonard is far better offensively than all of them, and no slower and no more easily discouraged. Unlike any of them, he would be able to consistently land like that into the late rounds. He wouldn't allow Floyd to get space and take the breaks that he likes.
Late KO for SRL. Mayweather's defense is still good and will be able to hang for the first 2 rounds and then SRL will just pick him apart and it will be **** for Mayweather.
Well, if we're plucking Mayweather out of the timeline and planting him in Leonard's era he could conceivably get Panama Lewis in his corner... :think
This. Floyd just doesn't have the size, workrate or anything to beat Leonard. His only advantage is his defense, but Leonard also had a solid defense and he was much more complete in every other area. Leonard would be toying with him in the later rounds. Floyd doesn't match up that well against a lot of the great welters, imo. He's too small, his chin isn't great, and he doesn't carry enough power at the weight. His habit of only throwing 1 punch at a time and going into a shell would be his downfall in most of these match-ups.
