More often than not it's the lower weights that produce the best fights. Personally I tend to just watch the most hyped fights nowadays so anything below...say, lightweight rarely gets a look in. I rarely buy ppv's anymore out of principle so the dwarf classes I never see at all really as nobody captures undercards. When I first started watching boxing I used to watch and tape everything that I could so I could probably build a couple of houses out of boxing video cassettes but those days are behind me. All the crap in boxing has gotten to me, it's almost impossible to even watch a fight without forking out so I just don't bother but for the very big un's. There's such a backlog of great matches to mine anyway that I get by, the quality of boxing is generally better with the "old school" anyway I would like to thank my momma and Elvis for their support in writing out this very long post. Brand new cadillac. God bless y'all.
Cruiserweight is the most boring division. I also dont really pay any interest to anything lower than bantamweight.
Of course, but I don't see why fighters have to move up in weight during their career. Obviously when a 130lb guy is fighting an opponent who is only 121lbs it is not a fair fight, but with the weight divisions I suggested there wont (in practice) be any fighters in the 121-125lb range. They will bulk up to 130 or cut down to 120. The sport will have fewer champions and as a result the guys with the belts will have a better profile because of this Take the cruiserweight division for example. I imagine there are relatively few CWs fighting at 180lbs, they either bulk up to 200 or cut down to 175. This is far better than adding a 185lb division
Yes, the feather bantam etc. divisions. I don't watching kids fighting each other. I'd go kindergarten if I wanted.
Ill watch all weight classes. I can see some fans being turned off by light punching Flys and Jr flys. But dont get it twisted guys like RIcardo Lopez,Mark Johnson,Albert Jiminez,Danny Romero,Rosendo Alvarez,Michael Carbajal,Chiquita Gonzalez, Scotty Olson ETc etc i can go on forever . All little guys who could bang and exciting to watch.
So the lower weight classes are disliked because they don't have enough KOs but at the same time the cruiserweights are unpopular?:huh I am actually looking forward to the tourney at that division. The last guy has still to be picked. I hope they pick either Green, Enzo, Hide or Flores. I don't expect there to be many fights making it to the scorecards unlike the Showtime Super 6:hey
Yes but with the weight divisions you suggested you have the smallest fighters making the biggest jumps in weight(bar from Light-Heavy to Cruiser). Super-Middleweight to Light-Heavyweight is only 7 lbs, or ony 4% of a Super-Middleweights fighters weight. 10lbs is 9% of a 110lb fighters weight, so over twice the jump. Now you probably still think that's fair because you don't care for the lower weight-classes but it just isn't. Don't get me wrong there are too many weight-classes and some changes to that would be a positive, but reacting too much wouldn't help things. I wouldn't mind seeing Minimum-weight and starting with Light-Flyweight(108 lbs), particularly as neither of these divisions have a huge amount of fighters in them. Even joined together they would have less than 800 active fighters in the division according to boxrec, and the Minimumweight field of less than 250 fighters is just too small to justify its own division. That change alone would improve things a lot and if another change was really necessary, removing Super-Flyweight and bringing Bantamweight down to 117 could be implemented and the already very hot Bantamweight division would be absolutely loaded with quality fighters. It would present quite a jump up for Flyweights however but overall it'd probably be a positive. However if you're going to start at 110, then jump to 120 and then to 130, should you really have 135 ?, I mean that's just a 5lb jump compared to the others so really in your World it'd make sense to scrap Lightweight aswell and go straight to 140. Then Welterweight is only 7lbs up and the jump from Light-Welterweight to Light-Middleweight is only 9% of the fighters weight(just like 110-120) so Welterweight should be scrapped aswell. But then the jump up to Middleweight is so small just 6lbs, and considering jumping all the way to Super-Middleweight is just over 8% of a Light-Middleweight fighters weight that'd make more sense aswell. Seeing as Light-Heavyweight is so close to Super-Middleweight that should probably be moved to 185. So you'd be in favour of this new system I assume: 110 120 130 140 154 168 185 200+ That'd leave us with 8 weight-classes aswell which is what people seem to strive for. Of course it wasn't that long ago we had the original 8 weight-classes(although people normally fail to mention Light-Welterweight was a very strong and popular weight-class in the 1930's before being removed) and that in the old days 'World title fights' were often billed at all sorts of different weightclasses(including 122) long before Super-Bantamweight came about. Anyway here's something for people to keep in mind, for the last 13 years all of Ring magazine's fights of the year have taken place at 140 or below. 4 of the last 10 have taken place at Super-Bantamweight in particular. People who say things like 'I don't watch below Welterweight', 'I don't wanna watch children fight', by all means stick to your ignorant views. But you'll miss the best fights that are happening in boxing, and if you don't have a problem with that then fine. As for boxers not carrying any power at the lower weights. If may not be the case now but a few years ago I looked at the % of knockouts on the 4 Flyweight champions records and the 4 Heavyweight champions records. The Flyweights average knockout % was higher............
