I'm still upset about Green V Briggs, it's not the way Briggs deserves to be remembered. I went looking for some of his old fights on YouTube and came along his second war with Adamek. I have seen the fight many times but this is the first time I have heard the HBO commentary. Interesting to note Larry Merchant had Briggs winning the fight by a point, while Harold Lederman had it for Adamek by two. It is also the first time I have seen the punch stats for this fight. I'll post the first part, you can follow the link to the rest.

I had the same score as Merchant, Lederman gave Adamek a couple of rounds that I thought were clearly Paul's.

As much as I wanted to score to Briggsy I felt he just got edged out by Adamek. You've got to beat the champion. I think the KD in rd 1 worked against Briggsy in this fight. He seemed to simply head hunt after he got it. Great fights both of them.

yeah your right about him only goin to be remembered by the green farce. its sad that the majority of people will overlook the fights with adameck and his other good performances and also how hard he worked and the obstacles in life he had to overcome to get to where he was. i jusat hope hes happy and secure in life and able to enjoy it

    Great fight.

I thought it was a clear draw watching it again (as I did first time), couple of very close ones there, could have gone either way I guess.

Really should have been a rubber match.

I sat ringside at Briggs-Adamek II. Great fight, great night, some of the best money I have ever spent. It was a very close fight but I think it was a tough call for Paul to lose considering he got the knock down in round 1 and Adamek had a point deducted for repeated low shots later in the fight.

only person briggs has to blame for his now lack of legacy is briggs!

the only person to blame for both adamek losses is johnny lewis. a decent trainer would have had him finish him immediately ala green v jones.

Gee mate you're a bit harsh. I couldve sworn Jack Mosley was in the corner for the first fight.

Green machine circus have to hold some responsibility for the death of Briggs legacy, they lured a sick broke bloke into this fight via Money. Briggs knew he didnt stand a chance, his old trainer knew it, NSW boxing authority knew it but Green Machine circus wouldnt have a bar of it, its all money money money for these guys, they care not for the legacy of any fighter or for that matter Australian boxing. Billy Hussein also knew it but keept it all hush hush, the article in which Billy spoke to Angelo about the leaked footage is evidence these guys are crooks and should be raked over the coals. Boxing Australia needs them so at times they look the other way, with miss matched fights and shonky shows!

Johnny lewis is imo one of the best blokes and trainers in this industry, he can not be blamed for any failures on Briggs part. I felt it was a close fight but Briggs just didnt have that edge to take Adamek into the trenches. Personally i thought he was going to win the fight based on the first one, Adamek is crafty and i suspect his camp did a bit of homework for the 2nd fight and had made a stern study of Briggs in preperation for the 2nd encounter.

Fight was a hell of a war. Respect to Briggs, hell of a warrior.

Shame with the Green fight, he didnt deserve that as a farewell, unless he beats up someone to leave the sport on a good note.

    Has Briggs been paid yet?

I thought Briggs drew with Adamek in fight 1 but lost the 2nd by a point.

Lewis only trained him for the 2nd fight.

Johnny Lewis didn't start training Briggs until after his first fight with Tomasz Adamek. If you are going to start bagging people when it's unwarranted at least get your facts right so you don't make yourself look completely ignorant.

This is true, Briggs trained with Rod Waterhouse until just before Adamek 1, he trained at big bear with Mosley Senior and his style was visibly different, for the worse. No disrespect nor blame should be heaped upon Mr.Mosley as fighters and trainers have to gel for it to be successful.
Briggs trained with Johnny Lewis for the second Adamek fight, I thought he won this fight and has, I believe, been the only man to drop Adamek in the pro ranks. Adamek will become an all time great.
I've been following the Briggs brothers since they where fifteen and both have provided plenty of entertainment at their blood, sweat and tears. They where both prize fighters from a young age and I believe, Briggsy back flipped on Green.
Just like the Sex Pistols Great Rock and Roll Swindle, we've seen the modern day, Australian Great Boxing Swindle.
We all know Briggs doesn't have a glass hairline. But we don't know what went on behind the scene.
