Best takedown defence in MMA?

I did think BJ Penn was up there, but Edgar managed to get him down pretty easily. I find this really strange, as I've seen BJ avoid being taken down by bigger guys and better wrestlers than Frankie.

Who do you think has the best TD defence out there?

I've been very impressed by Junior dos Santos in that regard, but I suppose he hasn't really fought good enough opposition yet to be considered one of the proven top guys.

Lyoto Machida is pretty good at takedown defense. He has sumo background.

My pick as well. His sumo really an underrated part of his arsenal.

Yes it was. Pretty much all he is is a striker. That just shows a boxer can compete if he can learn to stay on his feet.

thats why I liked the tito chuck fight so much without tito's takedowns he was ****ed.

watching someone shoot in from the outside(to stay out of range of chucks punches) he punked tito bad.

    then hurt him.

even when you took chuck down you couldnt keep him there, now thats true frustation, to work so hard for a takedown just to have your opponent stand up.........and have to do it all over again.:yikes

got to agree, in my opinion it was just as good of an asset as his striking.

Just for reference, for those saying/agreeing with Chuck Liddell...Chuck has been taken down more then a few times. He simply is able to get up rather easily.

Just like Quintin Jackson doesn't have good submission defense. He's always getting caught in submissions, but is simply able to escape them (a la Jackson vs. Griffin at UFC 87). Defense is primarily avoidance.
