"The sport has taken a lot out of me," he said. "I'm 30 years old. I've been boxing for 20 years, but not 20 years like everyone else. I've been working my ass off for 20 years. I don't train like regular boxers. I train way harder than anybody. So it's been a hard 20 years. I'm not beaten down, but mentally and physically it gets draining."
Molitor usually exudes an aura of confidence, mixed with a dash of bitterness and melancholy. That's usually a recipe for big success in the ring. But on Tuesday, the day before he and his entourage, including his longtime trainer Chris Johnson, depart for England, he seems more emotional than usual. In fact, at times it appears that he is on the verge of tears. Perhaps it's just pre-fight jitters, though Molitor has fought in Britain before, three times in fact, and has won every time.
"It's been 20 years of hard work and dedication -- mentally and physically -- and I've sacrificed my entire life," he said. "My life is ruined forever. My hands will never be the same, my mentality will never be the same, my thought process will never be the same. My family suffered because of the lifestyle I had to live. I've done some things outside of the ring that I'm not proud of. My life's over to me. It's not fair, but it's what I chose."

He should see a therapist. Sounds like he might have post-concussion depression.

Well, you can't spell Steve Molitor without "Emo". See: Stev

Seriously though, I hate to see any fighter go through something like that. If he's saying it publicly, who knows what he's feeling privately about it. Usually fighters will do their best to hide that kind of vulnerability...hope he gets help.

Molitors come from a family of chaos from what Ive heard here in Toronto.

Forget boxing, this sounds like a recipe for a homicide or suicide.

Molitor is garbage, and is raping Canada of their money to watch his boring ass against journyman/shot fighters. The moment he stepped up to the elite level he got destroyed and he'll get destroyed again if he steps up.

The last thing any of us wants to see is another Valero tragedy...I hope the warning signs here aren't ignored for everyone's sake.

I think his brother is serving a life sentence for killing his girl friend or something like that. So emotional instability runs in the family. Caballero seriously shot this guy's confidence level. I don't know why Molitor is so bitter at boxing though. Where else could a dumb wigger like this earn this type of money?

You don't get it. Fighting world ranked journeyman/shot fighters is the best thing to happen with Ontario boxing in a very long time. I challenge you to find a better Ontario born and based fighter in the last 3 decades. And no body in the rest of Canada, especially Quebec, gives a flying **** about Molitor.

He's beaten a few legitimate top 10 guys (Ndlovu x2, Beltran, Hunter at the time). He's not close to being an elite fighter or anything, but he's no worse than half the beltholders out there, and nobody's claiming he's all that great.
