tell you what, that was great experience for him, coming away with a world title AND a dvd to mull over, thats gotta be priceless for his 1st defence, although i think a defence this year is a bit soon i, unless the WBO say he has to.

Awesome stuff. Some scary moments but he did really well. He elevated his game on a night where he needed to. Elevating his game is something Burns has struggled with in many fights.

Totally. First while of round one i thought Ricky looked smooth and confident but i also had a feeling that Martinez was sitting back and testing the water and when ricky hit the floor i feared the worst. However, the one thing you can say is that Ricky never lost his confidence. He looked in complete control at times, but Martinez' power put him under pressure and there were a couple of instances when he was on the ropes and not throwing back that i thought he had maybe lost his compusure. But he hadn't and Martinez couldn't cope with his slick boxing. I haven't seen much of Martinez and so i can't say if martinez was "found out", whether he had an off night or was "exposed". What i can say though is that Ricky Burns was in with a world champion who, despite being crude at times, was a bigger puncher than ricky, was unbeaten and ricky outboxed him and had a greater will to win. Ricky did Scotland proud.

Why not better then sitting around I hate inactive fighters. He can build on this win and build up some momentum and expand his support by staying active.
How about someone like Gamaliel Diaz, tough Mexican hugely experienced and in OK form. Would be a good acid test against a fighter that has fought the A-Z of the top 126 and 130 lbers.
