I think Enzo Macc - came in for alot of stick and abuse after the Haye fight.

I think that Enzo Calzaghe made things alot worse -

And their conduct in the build up - things said - and the lack of class showed and the lack of credit given to Haye for the win - caused people to backlash at the 2 Enzos.

I'm certainly not the only guy who can be accused of winding Enzo up on the internet.

Betty Swollocks made the Enzo is a glassed jawed jounrneyman thread.

And Claypole and John 18 always banged on about his moobs.

While Stizyal refers to him as Enzo Crapperenelli and called him ugly.

I remeber Frank Maloney - a regular poster on boxrec - came on and called all the posters / fans on the forums just a bunch of "wannabes"

But to play Devil's Advocate, the sport has never been weaker since the advent of the mainstream World Wide Web.

Too much information is just as bad as too little.

I took great pride and not to mention spent, over the years, a small fortune buying books etc to further my knowledge. But what is the point now when we have boxrec?

Nothing is a mystery anymore, all the secrets of sport are out in the open, and because of the Internet, the sport has lost it's mystique.

I can understand the frustrations of Warren and co, of us Internet geeks, we have played a large part in the downfall of the sport...

According to Frank Maloney 'People in the trade use message boards to spread rumours under dodgy names'

    Yes true.

I remeber back in the 1990's could not wait for Friday to come to get Boxing News and see the latest develpoments.

How times have changed - I now know whats happening all day everyday.

It only has to be announced something in the boxing world - and in under 60 seconds later Ishy has worked his magic and its up on here complete with the link / source

boxing survived for many years without the internet - stop being such drama queens.

Could be argued in yester year the sport was in better health - without wanting to sound like the rose tinted glasses good old days - boxing was on main stream ITV and BBC - the best fought the best more often - and there were less bogus belts about.

    Forums though are great inventions.

Well Dean Powell said - Sports Network man............"all you need is to make a username and password and you are free to write anything you want - its destroying people (being talked about)"

Someone then called Dean Powell a wanker on here.

Before Jeff Thomas stepped in and told people to stop insulting Dean Powell as it was out of order.

While younger people think boxing cannot surive without the internet.

Boxing has been around for over hundred years.

Internet has been around for 15 years tops - and only in the last 10 years have boxing forums really existed.

    Internet is the newbie here.

Boxing is the established sport - with or without the net.

Well that's just uncalled for and out of order. So that stuff should be looked at by the mods but the problem is if you ban one person for slinging insults then half the forum would be out.

The Forums/Boxrec must have made promoters/matchmakers lives harder because they can no longer put a pallooka with a padded record up against a prospect without being challenged.

This is the problem, the Brit forum doesn't have it's own moderator any more.

I posted that Audley Harrison was a wanker and within about three seconds Achilles or Longcount deleted it - these days you can post what you want without any action being taken.

    This is true.

The problem is, he made his name at heavyweight with his big mouth, and he used Wladimir Klitschko as the target to get himself known.
    That's what people wont forget.

First and foremost, yet again I want to stress that this isn't a thread about Haye-Harrison:roll:.

I'm sorry, but I have to respectfully disagree. If anything, the secrets and ulterior side of the sport being better known can only be a healthy thing for the sport. Should people be content and not voice their displeasure at mismatches and rip-offs? Surely a better-educated fan drives the standards of any given sport even higher?

Having plentiful access to information isn't a bad thing either, but it's not the be-all and end-all either. A Boxrec search doesn't tell you a lot of things: it doesn't tell you the quality of opposition a particular fighter has faced; it doesn't tell you the type of fighter someone is; it doesn't tell you a fighter's weakness(es). There are plenty of things that cant be 'Boxrec'd'.

Personally, I think the reason the 'internet fan' is loathed is simply because most are now clued-up to the greedy and heinous sides of the sport. All of a sudden, various people in the game can see criticism right infront of them on a computer screen, whereas before forums and the like became so popular they may have only ever heard whispers or were completely oblivious to it. All of a sudden they have a problem that they can't ignore, so it's far easier to just dismiss it. Sadly, many of these people in the game do not realise that they are infact ostracizing their own fans rather than taking palpable criticism constructively for the betterment of the sport.

    Wannabe's?

Who would want to work in an industry where a huge amount of backstabbing goes on and most of the people make little if no money, despite working all the hours god sends.

Frankly, there are far more profitable businesses to be involved in than Boxing.
