    Simpson in points-defeat agony
GREENOCK featherweight John Simpson will almost certainly be given the chance to regain his Commonwealth title.
Simpson, 27, suffered a points defeat at the hands of Englishman Stephen Smith on the undercard of Ricky Burns’ stunning world-title win over Puerto Rican Roman Martinez at the weekend.
But promoter Frank Warren has pledged to stay loyal to the former champion after claiming the result could have gone either way.

Well i thought Simpson won by 2 or 3 rounds. He may not have been quite as busy as Smith but he landed the cleaner punches,a lot of Smiths punches didn't land. However Jim Watt and that clown he commentates with were constantly up Smiths arse, you would think Simpson hadn't been in the ring at all.

If there's a rematch i fancy Smith to get the win again.

Smith looked far from brilliant in the fight, but he did well. Proved he can hang in tough when needed to, and after that first fight, will have a few more plan's up his sleeve the second time round. Simpson fight's one way, and one way only, that's why i'd fancy Smith again the second time round

The fight was a ******* and very close, could have gone either way but i always thought you had to really take a title from the champ so in my eyes bad decision. Look forward to a rematch tho.....

i had it 3 rounds to simpson, johnny nelson had it 2, jim watt had it by one and adam smith had it a draw, is it cleaner shots or lands on gloves we're looking at ?

this was for a COMMONWEALTH title, why cant we have an african or two judging the fight ? only way to get rid of the age old bias complaint.

No promoter in the UK is gonna pay for judges to come from Africa. If the Commonwealth Boxing Council ordered such a move you would suddenly see a lot less Commonwelath title fights in this country.

I had John winning the fight by 2 rounds and i'm still gutted for him he never got the call...

The best way to escape the prejudice talk would have been to have 3 officials from 3 different countries, it was left way to open to be exploited especially after the decision where so many had Simpson winning, i just hope he gets a rematch or even a shot at Lindsay as i feel a Simpson v Lindsay fight would be superb!!!
