The less violent the better for Fedor, he would be at the biggest advantage to play a submission game.
Overeem would destroy Lesnar, Cain and Carwin........this is how the fight would go. Brock would throw one of his weak ass girlie punches before Overeem KO's him. This content is protected
Ehh, the shoot that he landed on Carwin was underwhelming.. You think that would work on Overeem? Be serious now.. I really doubt that particular shoot, the one in the second round on Carwin would again, on any heavy who is wary of takedowns and not totally gassed.. I could see Lesnar landing a takedown and pounding Overeem out in the first. But, if Overeem managed to stay on his feet for three minutes, or manage to take Lesnar to his back, Lesnar would be finished. Les looked helpless on his back.. Think about Reem from sidemount trying for knees, elbows, trapping an arm? I think you don't give his gnp enough credit.
I was a bit ambiguous, I meant in his previous fights, especially Couture, he showed some striking ability. Also it's not like Overeem is well known for a great chin, he has been knocked out many times by LHWs; so the big Gorilla fists of Lesnar do at least pose a threat he needs to be aware of. Overeem taking Lesnar down is highly, highly unlikely. Overeem has been known to fold a bit mentally in fights if he isn't getting his way; having Lesnar on top, breaking him down, with really nowhere for Overeem to go is not a good prospect for Overeem.
I pretty much tip my hat to you Beebs, as you know far more about MMA than I do, but I must say I completely disagree with you on an Overeem-Lesnar match-up. I respect Lesnar's overall ability, I genuinely do. His performance in the second Mir fight was outstanding, and his resilience in the Carwin fight was tremendous. I think he is the 4th best heavyweight out there, behind Fedor, Overeem and Dos Santos, I now rate him higher than a whole host of good heavyweights like Werdum, Mir, Carwin, Bigfoot, etc. However, I really do view his stand-up game as a glaring weakness, and one that both Overeem and JDS will ruthlessly capitalize on. Those two guys have much better TD defence than Carwin, they have quicker, better strikes than Carwin, and they have vastly superior cardio to Carwin. Both guys could pick him apart with strikes, wear him down, possibly knock him out. Even if he gets the TD, I think both guys have the nous to ride it out and get back up. Couture got back to standing after being taken down by Brock, and at this stage in their respective careers both Overeem and JDS are more physically potent than Randy was. Overeem just has a far deeper skillset and a far deeper base of experience than Brock has. Allied to Overeem's awesome physical stature now, I can't see how Brock beats him at all these days.
Overeem's shortcomings in the past can be blamed on his weakened state do to excessive weight cutting to make 205. We haven't really seen him pushed at heavyweight.
I like Brock, he's accomplished way more than I thought possible and in such a short amount of time and he showed me a lot about his character in the Carwin fight, but there's no way anyone should be calling him the third best MMA heavyweight, let alone #1.
What striking ability? Brock might have gorilla fists, but Brock still punches like a girl. You can have the biggest fist but it still wont knock anyone down if you cant throw a punch properly or if you dont have a powerful punch in the first place. Why is that? Overeem is a more skilled ground fighter. Brock taking Overeem down on the other hand is highly unlikely. Any double or single leg attempts by Brock would be met by a devastating Overeem knee or a choke. Having Overeem on top would totally panic Brock, Brock really doesnt know what to do in that position. We also know that Brock has no standup.
Except he wouldn't need to throw a punch from standing. Not to mention if he connects with his "girl punches" it might just KO Overeem's "girl jaw"
He has broken bones with his punches, and Overeem has been KO'd more than enough times by LHW's. Overeem is not the more skilled ground fighter, he has a decent guillotine that he stands no chance of landing on Lesnar. Lesnar would completely nullify his guard, and pound him out. Brock does know what to do from his back, scramble and get up. Honestly, calling Overeem the more skilled ground fighter marks you as ignorant and a hater.
Werdum, Kharitanov: two losses. Then a bunch of lower quality, although impressive, wins. Having not really seen pushed at heavyweight is a great point though, all of his ranking is based off potential, in reality he has lost the two biggest HW fights he had.
1) No need for that, you are underestimating yourself, but thank you. 2) I highly doubt they have better takedown defense.
