And yet, you know you're factually incorrect about that, but you say it anway. What you're saying should have been true, but it wasn't. People thought De La Hoya fought BEYOND terrified against Triniadad - but forget that. That's De La Hoya. Who the **** (was) Hopkins to anybody at that point? There are too many things wrong with your variated 20/20 "I knew better... blah.. blah.." Fake 9 years later claim. Good one tho. Everybody was slapping their forehead after Hopkins realizing only then the blueprint had been laid by Oscar.
I want to change my vote to Hopkins. San_Rafael makes up some good points and hes getting angry about the poll.
Just saying the critics and pundits might have thought him invinci*le yet those who watched that one fight of DLH/Tito thought Tito had lost a fight, except Tito fans, and that lateral movement created a pro*lem for him. I'm lacking a certain letter on my key*oard after spilling water on it last Wednesday so its hard to keep up. I agree he was the favorite *ut so was DLH against Pac.
........I had watched the ODLH fight by then, as had a whole hell of a lot of casual fans, and since I thought it was an obvious robbery and often had Trinidad looking like a big, strong amateur, I didn't think he was invincible at all. I'm guessing I'm not a .02% boxing genius and I'd bet that there was a much higher than .02% of us that did not think Tito was anything invincible. Great fighter though, of course. It was an upset, sure. ...But, come on.
And I forgot to mention... EVEN Oscar was slapping his forehead talking about how he could have knocked Trinidad out if he had gone for the kill after what he saw Hopkins do. There's another degree of the aftersight. HORSE****. Another customer. Against Hopkins? In that fight? Please.
I know, I know, you thought Trinidad was invincible, therefore only the wisest of all boxing sages could have thought otherwise. How many times did you see him knocked on his ass before that fight to smaller men? The guy was like Superman! No one thought bullets wouldn't just bounce the **** off his chest!
Hopkins. Tito was on such a great run at that time, with so much momentum, that it seemed like he could sweep aside anyone in his path. After Tito crucified Joppy and Hopkins beat Holmes in a really ugly fight, there weren't a whole lof of experts predicting a Hopkins win. All these people who say the saw it coming either kept their opinions to themselves at the time or are just re-writing history to make themselves sound clever.
I know, I know, you thought Hopkins would beat Trinidad, therefore only the wisest .02%, which was actually only you, Boxed Ears, can seize upon this opportunity now and perch himself high upon the soap box 9 years later and impress us all with how smart and clever he is. I'm sure you were even diligently following the sport at the time. You've convinced me.
Actually, I said that I'm guessing I'm not a .02% genius, and that it was an upset and that Trinidad was a great fighter and never even mentioned that I favored either man. Congrats on your reading comprehension. Is this the part where you inexplicably declare you've owned me like you did with Addie the other day? Go for it. It's amusing.
Congrats on your reading comprehension. Where in my posts do I state I thought Trinidad was "invincible?" Look at your last post, Sherlock. How do you like it when people put words in your mouth? Not very much I can see, so spare the rest of us. Why are you explaining your first post to me again? Is there a reason? I already responded to it accordingly. Way to retract and clarify. Don't run up that hill too fast.
There will never be as good a fight to bet on as Winky vs. Tito again. There were no online bookies that I was aware of at the time, or if there were I wasn't in on it. But I said as the first bell rang "I'd put half what I got on Winky if I could" Turned out to be a little worse than I thought, though. I basically expected the fight to go like that but not for tito to look completely impotent like he did. I thought he might win three rounds on volume.
I wasnt old enough to remember those fights because where I come from boxing isnt that big. But I must confess that the San Rafael dude makes good sense, cause I remember recently when I watched Hopkins vs Trinidad the commentators were praising Hopkins to the skies, and Larry Merchant saying "Hopkins has put himself in the list of all the great middleweights" so that must have been huge. Thats why I vote Hopkins.
