anybody can be undefeated **** i could be 50-0 50ko if all i do is fight 16 year old school girls it means jack ****. i dont understand why the boxing game puts all its emphasis on the 0 when its clear boxing fans dont giv a **** about it. just look at mma most of those fighters hav wat we would call journey men records even the best like randy couture 19-10, anderson silva 27-4, chuck liddel 21-8, bj penn 15-7. but it doesnt matter cause they were fighting the best right outta the gate fans dont care about flashy records they care about who u fight and how u fight em

Very true. A loss there isn't career ending talk.

A string of KO losses...maybe (see Chuck)

i agree most wholeheartedly as a fan. i dont give a damn about a boxer's record, i want to see the best matches out there.

...but as a boxer, i can see that robbing an 0 would be decent incentive.

A long undefeated run usually shows a great fighter who finds a way to win, even against the odds. If they arent great fighters they dont usually have long runs undefeated, especially if they are world champs.
Great fighters who have beaten good fighters and remained undefeated for long runs-

    J Calzaghe went 46-0
    D Michalczewski went 48-0
    Z Erdei is 31-0
    S Ottke went 34-0
    M Kessler went 39-0

Here are a few seemingly random facts that really tell the story if you'll stop and think about them.

    1) Grady Brewer has beat 5 undefeated opponents.

    2) David "The Destoyer" Lopez has 12 losses, but today he is without a doubt a top 10 middleweight.

    3) Alexis Arguello, Danny "Little Red" Lopez, Marvin Haglar, and Bernard Hopkins all had losses before they even sniffed a world title.

The almighty "Zero" is an extremely over rated aspect of a fighter's record.

Both Marquez brothers lost in their pro debuts, the great Henry Armstrong was 1-3 when he started his pro career never having gone undefeated either...and does anyone know who those guys lost to? No. Because it doesnt matter. Its about what they accomplished and who they did beat. A loss is only damaging to a fighters career if he doesnt learn anything from it. Even in winning, sometimes you really lose.

who did a fighter beat and at what stage of his opponents career - that's a pretty simplistic but foolproof guide to judging a fighter's true achievements.

in this sport, a 'world title' or an 'undefeated' record can easily be smoke and mirrors.

the problem a lot of people have seeing this side, though, is because other sports operate under one governing body (the way it should be).

if michael schumacher or ayrton senna won twice as many titles and races in formula 3 instead of formula 1, nobody would be talking about how great they were today.

One of the reasons the popuarity MMA has skyr ocketed is that fighters want to and and do fight the best and biggest challeges they can. That doesn't happen much in boxing until the zero goes away. When you think of really great and admired boxers of the past ten years you think Pacquiao, J.M.Marquez, Barerra, Morales, R. Marquez, Vazquez, even Dela Hoya, Mosley, Hopkins, Ademek, Toney, and others. These are men that tested themselves and can look back knowing they reached the highest rung they were capable of. Some possibly better fighters, with phenomenal skills like Roy Jones, and even Mayweather, have while leaving no doubt that they are all time greats, have left a question mark as to how great they are because they did not push the limit of their abilities.

floyd's going to be a hot topic for this debate for years to come...

before he fought gatti he did the rounds and beat top guys, but then again it wasn't until he fought gatti that the real cash started rolling in.

there's no doubt floyd picked some fights, but his resume is still a damn sight better than most fighters.

what taints floyd's record though, is that he is that good a fighter, he's told the entire world he's that good a fighter at every opportunity - but now that the ONE fight that really matters that can put the debate to rest appears...he's nowhere to be seen.

Undefeated by fighting tough caliber in boxing is impressive, but defeating girls is an homosexual act.

Mike Tyson is undefeated against undefeated fighters and he (Tyson) has only been KO'd by fighters who themselves had been KO'd.
