    A year today boxing lost a star, A year that's gone so quick. I remember the night i found out. I was out and got call from my father. I was hoping he got it wrong and that it was all a mistake. Sadly it wasn't.

    The man was a class act in and out of the ring. Destined to be a star with his smile and his skills as well as his charm. He was a world class amateur who made his mark on us all with his aggressive mix of combinations and poise. He was a thinker and wasn't the typical boxer. A witty guy with other career path outside of the ring. Darrren was a go getter, something this sport truly needs. Someone who wanted to fight the best and be the best. He was what boxing is about and i can only hope that he left his mark on the young people of Ireland and the Uk where he touched many with his dignity and class.

    I just like us to remember Darren, he's not forgotten, i haven't made the thread to create debate, Just like to see people's memory's of Darren, Thoughts on his ability and stories of the man himself.


    I don't want this thread to be marred by people trying to solve the reason for his death. Just remember Darren for his boxing ability as well as his charming personality and smile that was worth a million dollars.

    Darren your missed and will not be forgotten

    A great guy. I shared maybe 10 minutes in a gym with him, and I will remember it the rest of my life. Just a nice guy but a dedicated professional.

    Got a cracking photo with him and me, and Tony Salam and BrianLawrence I have shared on here. Might dig it up.

    Remember waking up with a hangover and my brother told me I thought he had got it wrong. Couldn't believe it from his interviews and stuff he just seemed like a real good guy. His fight with Rasalev was his first real entertaining fight as a pro and with his style i'd say there was a good few more in him.

    Not much more I can add except that he was a real nice lad. And imo was destined for great things.

    Gone but never forgotten.

    I remember watching him in the Olympics and thinking he had the perfect style for the pro game, and seeing him in his short time in the pro's i knew he was destined for the top. But the thing that got me more was his interview after losing that Olympic semi to Degale, he came across as such a personable lad and i thought his charisma along with his ability would mean he couldn't fail.

    Such a tragic end of a young, hugely talented life but one which will never be forgotten by me.

    Great opening post mate, very poignant.

    I was in Las Vegas next to the hotel pool. Dave Coldwell told me and the sun seemed to go down, even Mayweather-Marquez was no consolation. A very promising fighter and a really nice fella. Met him once at the Mayweather Peacock workout and interviewed him by phone twice, so friendly and polite. Still shocked.

    Nice post mandanda ! ... gone but never forgotten ... a story of a genuine nice guy and what could have been .... a real shame !

    I remember where I was when I heard it: an internet cafe in Broome, Australia, the news saddened and shocked me. I have a friend who knew him, she was just as stunned as I was, I had never even met him either. I hope he is at peace.

    Really is very sad. Was thinking recently about what he might have achieved at this stage if he was still around. I can only think he would have given us some exciting nights.

    I was on here when I found out as somebody posted on here that they had heard a rumour, but I logged off until the next morning and then forgot about it, but by that time it had all been confirmed.

    It was eerie to think that 2 days before the tragedy there were fight posters with his face on all around the pubs in Sunderland. A young man who could have been a great fighter. RIP
