TD, good points, Chang was a phenom, and the first Zapata fight is endlessly debatable.

I'd edge towards Pryor over Chang ever so slightly with Julian Jackson clearly behind.

I've never watched a fight with the Korean Hawk in my life!!.(More to watch, **** my Sky box is full, many downloaded fights to watch and I have five career sets, job, kids = zero time..)
but out of Pryor and Jackson, Pryor is the originator

I'm giving you guys a few more hours to keep debating the Hawks, Haye, Harrison, and Hatton's flirtation with charlie...hell we can even throw in some Tomato Cans if you all want like Pavlik vs. his next 5 opponents. So preach on but tomorrow we flip the switch to our reputable friend TFFP's boy Derek "silence of the lambs" Chisora v. Sexton, Mike Jennings v. the broke Junior Witter and the rest of this magnificent card. you guys are droppin some knowledge, why not re-focus that insight into the here and now. for the record though, Chang and Pryor are the 1 and 2 hawks with perhaps achievement separating them.

Oh, and can we get some love for Julian please...This guy was one of the greatest KO artists of all time, knocking mofo's into the press row in empty arenas. He would be a PPV star in todays lust for blood. He broke my heart when he KO'd Herol but he also put Terrible Terry into Ambien land after Terry had disrespected an old Ray Leonard. "TERRY NORRIS IS GONE,!"

All together now...What time is it? HAWK TIME!!!

To be fair Slip we've rated Jackson above Andy Price and Welcome Ncita in the "Battle of the Hawks"....;O)

Aaron had a very good career, I don't think he would have beaten Leonard or Hearns at 147 (yes I know he beat a young Tommy in the ams) but it would have been interesting if he'd have moved up to welterweight in 1983 after Hearns was at 154 and Leonard has retired.

Fights against Jones, McCrory, Hwang and a still green Curry are all winnable fights for Pryor.

Heres a cr@acker to mull over. 1984. Pryor vs. Starling. The offense vs. the defense.

Zapata is as good as Cervantez IMO. But Arguello is better than anyone on Changs slate.

I like Changs more consistency (even though he turned in a few bad uns) and also for me he looks 'better' on film.

Be interesting to see how you scored it and maybe why?

I scored it very closely last time I seen it.

I can't remember the exact scoring but as you say it was very close. Could have only been by the odd round or two. Thinking about it I think there was actually a round missing from the copy I had (one of the later rounds). So may have been even closer. FLEA should be able to confirm that?

Great fight though - Chang was obviously the aggressor through out. But Zapata boxed beautifully and to me seemed to land the better shots and combinations. Some very hard rounds to score.

Like I say I would need to watch it again. :think

Sound mate. Can't disagree with much, I just thought Zapata at times was fairly in active and was at a stylistic disadvantage. I think the last round of my copy is missing about half of the round.

I think I had it Chang by 2 the last time I watched it, I think Flea had it even wider though, as does most.

On a side note, I think that is Zapata's best performance, as odd as that sounds.

Can't remember whether there's a round missing or not...I'll check later. Either way I had Chang up by about five towards the end, Zapata is quality but just gets put punched, even his defence can't handle the consistent offence of Chang.

Two of the greatest light flys going at it, Id pick both to come out on top against Rocardo Lopez (Zapata less so, but Lopez never saw anyone like Zapata, could offset his textbook style big time IMO) Chang would go right through him :yep

Gaz, Pryor Vs Starling is something I've never contemplated :good Id favour Starling, just, maybe because I feel he doesn't get his dues, but more because I feel he was the better Welter. Pryor Vs Jones would've been immense, I feel Pryor could definitely ride Jones' sledgehammer left and outpunch him for a late, damage-based stoppage.

I havn't seen that much of Zapata other than the two fights with Chang and I think a Bassa fight which is on the tube. I'll have to try and track down some more.

Also I'm a massive Whitaker fan so maybe I was swayed a little by the style of Zapata in the fight. :think I'll have to have another watch. Great style match up though, kind of Duran vs Whitaker. :D

He looked shite in the 2nd Torres fight especially, but most of his duds came against opponents he'd already looked good against and he usually went on to redeem himself. Against Kittikasem he just couldn't keep up his relentless style and walked into some. By all accounts he shouldve won, but then we would've seen a close to shot Chang against Lopez probably, which wouldn't have been good for my psyche today

Chang definitely beats Lopez, not sure on Zapata though. Zapata, as you say, definitely has the style and savvy to offset Lopez and probably will, but his chin is the major question in the bout as Lopez could KO him at any time IMO.

An absoloutly top drawer and focussed Zapata would probably take a wide UD but anything less than perfect and he is looking up at the lights from the canvas IMO.

Good stylistic comparison. It would be a bit like Duran vs Whittaker.

I am a fan of Zapata and really enjoy his style but I still had it close, I think a lot of rounds is what you prefer the aggresion of Chang or the defence of Zapata, rather than any actual bias's.

What I was meaning, he did have a few stinkers as champ by all accounts.

I have the Kittikasem fight just aint been able to make myself watch it yet. And if a faded Chang fought Lopez, Anarci would be an even more unbearable ****.
