I spar, train and do the heavy bag with 18oz gloves. Always have done for some reason.

Waste of time? Any benefit of moving to a smaller glove?

I have read that small fighters using very heavygloves can be ruined doing so. I'm not sure if this is true or not. I'm 126lbs and I use 14oz gloves in training, they give a good balance of that little extra weight but not too much. They are what feel good for me.

I'd say 18oz sounds about right.

I 83kg and i use 10oz gloves for every thing, reason behind it is your body gets used to absorbing bigger inpacts through your arm and neck, if you use 18oz gloves in training and drop down for a fight the minute you bang some one hard with 12oz gloves your going to feel like you broke your hand, it just a case of traing your body to accept pain not provide it with shocks, look at rockie in the meat factory hahahahahahaha

kinda agree but then i dont, because i've heard this expression used before that using heavyweights in boxing are "like putting sand in the gas tank of a ferrari"
using those heavy bag gloves are just gonna slow you down, because they are going to make your muscles all tense, tight and slow and what good does that do in training, sparring, or in the ring?? they certainly arnt gonna make you a stronger puncher or better boxer, which is the purpose of all your training in the first place, you get strong and have stronger punches from plyo metrics like clap push-ups & sit-ups and constantly hitting the bag, that is what builds your stregnth in boxing. you should be focusing on two main things, Speed & Technique, everything else will come to you as you progress in your workouts

If they feel too heavy, then they're too heavy.

    I use all different

    16oz for sparring
    18oz for bagwork
    10oz for pads

Sparring has to 16's just a question of safety, I like 18's for bags just cos I like the xtra protection round my hands & wrists, I use 10's when hitting pads cos I like to hit fast & sharp,
