J.S: But will the fight ever happen, especially in light of Floyd’s current legal troubles?

G.C: I’m disgusted right now. The fight was there to be made a while back - a great fight - but then Mayweather started all that drug testing stuff, which was just nonsense really. Mayweather was making all these unnecessary demands, maybe because he never really wanted the fight. It’s hard to believe that, what with all that money on the table, but you never know.

J.S: Well, a lot of people do seem to think that maybe Floyd didn’t want to risk losing that zero on the end of his record. And as much I would never call any fighter scared, maybe Mayweather felt he couldn’t beat the guy!

G.C: It just shows, the unhealthy way Mayweather has been behaving lately, all that acting out before the press and the fans. Who knows? But I put it [the fight between the two] on the shelf now, I’m done with it. Let’s see all the other great fights out there instead. Let’s see Pacquiao fight his next fight [against Margarito] - a guy who I really don’t feel should be fighting.

Thoughts? Again....just anther man's opinion but Gerry's opinion should be respected even if you don't agree.

cooney for all his hype in the late 70s early 80s is kind of a shaman for the sport he's a motivational type now bringing guys along and helping those who have fallen better themselves

he's all class and truely lives up to his billing as the "gentalmen"

I agree.....classic OVER achiever with the limited talent and ability he worked with in a very deep HW era.

Telling it like it is. Only Floyd fanatics at this point support that clown.

The guy has anvils for hands...problem was he lacked technique, making him a notch above Ernie Shavers. Still, look at the talent in the early 80s. He was a hell of a lot more deserving of a title shot than Tex Cobb or Scott Frank or just about anyone during Holmes reign that wasn't Michael Spinks. Tyson would have bowled over him, but he was still trying for the LA Olympics when Cooney was at his peak.

The guys he's beat known for KOing were past their prime 70s legends like Lyle and Norton. Still a threat but slow enough to be there when Cooney dropped the hammer.

Well, there you go. We've now heard from literally every living boxer who can still talk properly what they think of Pacweather VS Pacweather. That was the last one left.

    Cooney hits the nail.

Mayweather having all these unconventional testing demands are really ridiculous.

Was he as good as Spinks or Holmes in this regard?

Absolutely not but he wasnt as bad as people thionk based on what Holmes did to him (which was put on a clinic).

As Holmes himself said years later the Gerry was a fine boxer but many forgot about it because Larry dominated him.

Just look at the video posted above against Norton. He is a very sound fighter. Hes not clumsy.
