Groves vs DeGale negotiations: Groves "I feel he needs me more then I need him"

That renowned boxing source Willesden and Brent Times has an interview with Groves as well.

"I'm very keen on it and, if we can get it on, that'd be great," Groves told the Times. "I think the rivalry's too heated to let it drag on.

"There's been rivalries between two British boxers where one guy's in a different class and the other's chasing him because people want the fight to happen - Ricky Hatton and Junior Witter was an example of that.

"But this is a totally different scenario - it's a fierce rivalry. With that said, I think he needs me more than I need him.

"Normally big fights have to be in the city you're from to sell it, but I don't think that'd be a problem with this one. On Saturday there were lots of [Nathan] Cleverly fans there from Wales and they were talking about it, asking when I was going to knock DeGale out."

 

This fight happening would note a big change in how our domestic boxing is going. It would be great. I think this would be a big fight amongst fans. There is a big rivalry to sell from the amateur ranks and there is also a title on the line. The winner has a legit win and is immediately ready for the British title then more.

The loser simply regroups and moves on like they did in the amateurs. It really is that simple. There is no reason these guys can't fight again in 2 years time.

With a division containing Ward, Dirrell, Abrahams, Froch, Kessler, Bute etc these guys should not try to wait to be world champs etc to make the fight. I think someone could lose by that stage.

Ricky spent his life making out that Witter wasn't on his level. All this, he needs me more than I need him. It really made a mockery of our sport.
