I think were done big guy , when ever you wanna dance and talk proper MMA and not little arrows pointing to where i am and you are im ready to dance !!!! :good Oh BTW , that happens to be the list of the very best 170 and 185 lber's in the world over the last 2 - 3 years , maybe Nick Diaz might have something to say about that , or Wanderlei for that matter , but lets be real , both of them get what the last lot got from GSP and Silva :deal Ill leave you with my initial statement Dana White " im not a fan of guys moving out of weight classes until they have CLEANED OUT A DIVISION " Ill leave you and Dana to discuss who's actually left in either division for GSP and Silva to clean out :good oh **** i nearly forgot , Okami's next :hi:
Right, I got that...you're not exactly teaching me anything. Look up the word non-sequitur. It's one of those fancy vocabulary words. And what at all does that have to do with either one of those fighters, who by their own admission, not wanting to move up in weight classes? Guys move up and down all the time. Dana and Zuffa have pretty much zero say in the matter. You're listing off guys thinking you're making a point...and you haven't. Hence why I'm saying come back to the conversation. Now, if you want to talk MMA like an adult with other adults...first, learn how to make an argument if you're going to try and debate someone. I'll give you your first tip: Stay on topic! Very important.
What argument are you making mate ??? lets cut the insults , i cannot see where you have challenged what im saying :deal GSP has always stated his desire to move up in weight once he's proved he's the best 170 lb'er in the world , WHICH HE HAS !!! , Anderson Silva has quote said " i want to hold the 185 & 205 lb title's TOGETHER " :deal , now , what im saying is that Dana White is the reason behind neither of these two making a real push at the weight class above , Silva is 2 & 0 as a LHW in the UFC , and St Pierre has only ever really flirted with the idea of going up . GRANTED !!!!! Sliva since looks to have forgotten about the idea , but that is because of 2 things , his drop in form , and the fact Dana White wants at least one superstar in each division for marketing reasons , why the **** wouldnt you want to make fights like , Silva vs Evans , Silva vs Jones , Shogun , Rampage , or GSP vs Silva , GSP vs Wanderlei , but instead White seems more than happy to keep the quantity of headliners with a title at stake coming off the conveyor belt than he is giving us our superfights !!!!! Silva should be mixing it up @205 , but he isnt , and Dana White has a lot to do with that . How can you look a fan in the eye and say " a champion cannot move up in weight before he's cleaned out a weight class " then offer that very same champion a rematch with Dan Henderson lol: Its ****in laughable ........ Why would any MMA fan want to see Silva fight , Okami , Belcher , or anybody else he's hammered or tapped :deal WHY ???? , what argument are you making , please state clearly !!! , i know you Americans beleive in education and you like to say long hard to pronounce words , but id like just to hear exactly what your disagree'ing with !!!!
I also like using lots of smiley faces and excessive exclaimation points to go with my education. Works real well when trying to convince onlookers that I have a valid point to argue. My disagreement has been stated since my first post in this thread. Dana White and Zuffa does not control whether or not a fighter, any fighter, goes up or down in weight. Now, if a champion wants to go up or down in weight, that's fine. However, he still has the responsibility of defending his title, regardless of whether or not you think there is a "legitimate" contender in the wings. So, what does he have to do? He either has to fight at both weight classes while continuing to defend his title to #1 contenders or vacate his title and go up/down in weight accordingly. Now, I don't know that Anderson or GSP have said either of those things, but I can say, for a certainty, that they have, without a doubt, said far more recently that they have no desire to move up in weight at this moment. Anderson has been vehement about this point. GSP has been asked about this ad nausiem. He has said over and over again that it is a "question of timing." As a fan of this sport for years and someone who has practiced martial arts for nearly 20 years, I would LOVE to see GSP vs. Silva at 185 or a catchweight...but to suggest that they're being forced to stay at their weight class is a bit of a stretch when you really have no strong reasoning to think that they are. They are champions in the UFC. That means big money. Would they vacate it to go to another weight class where they wouldn't be champion (at least yet) and not as high profile, which would equal less money? Not likely. Would they do both? Maybe, but it is certainly much riskier. The weight cutting is changed drastically and there is substantially added pressure to win. If you go up to 185 (assuming you're talking about GSP) and lose but retain your title at 170, your image is still slightly tarnished by the loss at middleweight. Stop looking at it from your pretty selfish perspective and look at it through the eyes of the fighter. The image tends to change quite a bit when you do that.
Ok good , now we can talk , that post looks like something i can debate with . I think you should really watch the UFC post fight press conferences , In these conferences White has several times himself stated , what weight division he would like fighters to fight at , and i can 100% say that he has overtly stated that for Penn , GSP and Silva , like ive said the Silva situation does seem to have tailed off , but i think you are wrong in saying that White , the Fertitas or Zuffa have no influence on whether or not a fighter moves up , remember , its these people who make the offers , and it has been known for White and the UFC to make offers to fighters in the weight class they see that fighter suitable for . On the champion thing , i think your statement about having an obligation to defend your title is true , most of the time , however round about the time Silva was knocking off MW's one after the other , and then he brutally KO'd Griffin , i dont think he was obliged to fight anybody @85 !!! , i really dont , and i still dont now that Sonnen is out , i really hate repeating myself , but we now have a scenario where Yushin Okami is one fight away from a title fight , potentially ................. for you is that an acceptable opponent for Silva ??? it aint for me ............. I must hold my hand up and say that i havent heard GSP talk about MW for some time , but i have seen him prompted in public by White to remain at WW , enough evidence for me that White is influencing the situation personally . Then you have fighters like Nate Diaz & Diego Sanchez who like you say really have there own say whcih weight division they want to fight in (incidentally i have heard White say he'd like to see Sanchez @55 permenantly anyway) . You make a good point about fighters losing some of there aura if they lose in a weight class above , well that is exactly the point im making , and that is one of the reasons i think White is so reluctant to push this , he is so powerfull within the organisation and does hold grudges to the point where if you say NO to this guy it could be detrimental to your career , and it seems the more yo do as he says the more rewards you reap , is that moralloy correct ??? , i dont think so . In a nut shell i beleive Dana has a strong influence on GSP and Silva in the jumping weight class thing , and right now i beleive Silva should be fighting a genuine threat of an opponent , whether that be @205 why the **** not , in fact why not prime the guy for a run at the title while the MW division is sorting itself out , apart from Sonnen the closest thing to a #1 contender IMO would have to be Belcher , who is recovering from injury ............ so why not bump him up !!!
I did not say that White/Zuffa doesn't hold any influence about whether or not a fighter can decide to change weight classes, but what I did say was that it can't control whether or not they do. Ultimately, that is up to the fighter. Context, sir. Context. And no, my statement about having to defend your title isn't true "most of the time". It's true all of the time. They're obligated as champion to do so. If not, it's vacated. And luckily, the sport doesn't depend on whether or not you like possible #1 contenders. I'm not thrilled with Anderson fighting Belfort now (as I've stated clearly, with reasoning, in the other thread) but I'm very happy with either Okami or Marquardt getting the winner. You think White has power over someone like GSP? Not even close. GSP has far more clout with respect to White then White does with respect to GSP. He's the champion. He's the guy on the front pages of magazines, papers and on T.V. winning awards and getting high profile sponsorships. Dana White do something to **** over GSP? Yeah, right...and I'd turn down a blowjob from Alicia Keys. (And if you don't like the phrase "**** over" feel free to replace it with something like "Pressure GSP to do something he doesn't exactly want to do as of this moment.") And a "genuine threat", huh? Well, luckily, there always is one...these guys are professional fighters. Obviously to varying degrees of skill, but still. And again, your personal opinion doesn't exactly set matches, you can like or dislike them all you want. 95% of the time, the UFC gets the matches right. And you're not looking at the big picture at all. There isn't always going to be someone like Jon Fitch who has won 8 straight to clearly mark him as the #1 contender. The numbers simply don't work like that. You're not going to have a constant stream of fighters in each division each with extremely clear #1 contender status. It's simply not going to happen, as much as you or I would like it to. Sometimes, it's someone on a 2-3 fight win streak (usually with 1 loss preceded by a win streak). Welcome to the fight game.
Anderson Silva vs Vitor Belfort at UFC 125 Yushin Okami is now fighting Nate Marquardt for number 1 contender status.
chael sonnen = SCUM. all that **** he talked about lance armstrong and then he turns up failing a drug test. What a low life
Thanks for that .................. but i dont have to sit there and say im Bruce Lee , yes i have competed MMA 2 years ago before i got wrapped up in overseas work , got 12 months training on board and 2 fights , and have been boxing all my life :good so again thanks for that .............. Now as i said before can we cut insults ??? Ok your post , were clearly gonna have to agree to disagree , how much clout did Anderson Silva have when White was standing up there saying he may cut him or place him on the pre lim card ??? , not as much as you beleive , FACT !!! , What does an elitle level mixed martial artist do , who is not concerned about money before he is about facing the best competition in the world .................... wait .................... without the UFC ??? What does he do , he goes and fights in Strikeforce and Japan , and he makes a good living but he becomes scarred by people like me and you always pointing out he's not fighting the best fighters in the world , therefore my answer to you , who is GSP without the UFC ??? , he's the former WW champion of the world now fighting nobodys but still considered the best in the world , until ofcourse the UFC find another WW king they can build up with there PR machine and market him the way they did GSP , and inevitably GSP would return because life as a top fighter aint so rosy outside of the UFC , ask Penn & Randy ............... The title thing , being that you are an intelligent man , or claim to be , i wasnt saying there was or wasnt any hard and fast rules about champions having to defend there titles , if you say there is , then thats cool with me sweetheart , but may i ask you this , who is the governing body for that title ????? , is it the UFC ???? , id hazard a guess and say yes , in that case , they get to pretty much do as they please with there title fights , (i may be wrong on that , i have an inkling that the NSAC may have a say but ive never heard of it) now bearing that in mind , would you be aggreived if the UFC came out and said " Anderson Silva will not fight @MW again until there is a worthy challenger for a world title " , im not talking Leites , Cote or Maia here , im talking worthy !!! , worthy because they have proved beyond reasonable doubt they are the best fighter in that division besides the champ , which is what that division needs . I agree with you Fitch and Edgar and the likes are hard to come by , consistant world class athletes who are so difficuilt to beat you just have to sit up and take notice of them in the end , even if they are not a great marketing tool ............... and id have to place Sonnen in that bracket too , and yes not every division holds an array of fighters like this , but when a division is ruled by a true champion and the chasing pack are generally weaker contenders , you have to think outside the box and give something back to the fans ......... In the meantime Silve goes up and puts on superfights , and fights where we can say , man Anderson Silva has got his fands full here , them type of fights , and if Silva fails , then he returns and fights @MW , and he's had his chance , and we have seen some interesting fights involving Anderson Silva , please tell me this makes sense ??? !!!
I really don't get the argument here. The UFC is certainly wary of fighters moving between weight classes because (unlike boxing) they want people to understand the different divisions and care about the championships. If you have champions in lower weight-classes constantly moving up and vacating their titles before defeating all challengers it just undermines the prestige of their belts. They also seem to worry about lighter fighters getting masscared by heavier opponents and this making them seem like lesser fighters in the eyes of the public, which if it keeps happening would be a problem (like in boxing when getting dominanted by Mayweather really hurt Marquez' drawing power at lightweight). Now all that said, they are obviously open to fighters moving up and down. White's made it clear that he dislikes Penn fighting at welterweight but that doesn't stop them making Hughes-Penn 3 while the likes of Sanchez and Alves have ignored his publiclly stated views on their optimum weight class. And they've been willing to have champions move up and down as well - they allowed Penn to challenge for the WW Title, they had Rogan start hyping Shogun-Silva at UFC 104 when it looked like Machida was about to lose the title and if Silva hadn't ****ed up they would have had GSP-Silva for the welterweight title this summer. As for the present day - GSP has made clear that he's willing to move up at some point but would want time to pack on extra muscle. Plus St. Pierre has often spoken about wanting to face Jake Shields. Silva has made it clear that he's no longer interested in fighting at 205Ibs, and in the likes of Belfort, Wanderlei and Bisping has interesting/marketable possible contenders that he hasn't faced before. I think they'll meet sometime in the next eighteen months if both keep winning but its not urgent.
