    I think that the original Sugar could have done. No surprise there. Kid Gavilan would have had a good shot. I'm hard pressed to think of many more. I'm sure that I'll be reminded,in time. Thoughts ?

    Thomas Hearns certainly could have, I think we learned that much from their first fight.

    I'd take SRR over him and that's all she wrote. There would obviously be others in with a chance but none that i'd be actually picking.

    I would have made Hearns the slight favourite over Leonard if the fight was made at 154 lbs.

    i'll throw in kid gavilan...never ko'd and had long arms and i can imagine leonard as fast as he was getting caught with those famous bolo punches.....gavilan could box 50 rounds if he had to..

    Duran, Robinson, Hearns and maybe Mayweather although I wouldn't pick him (waits for numerous bitching comments). Maybe Galivan/Whitaker too, although I'd pick LEonard against both. I can't see Napoles having the style to win. Walker had problems with boxer movers and hasn't got a that impressive record at 147. Ross and Armstrong are way too small. DLH/Tito just not good enough.

    I would only make Robinson favourite over him but obviously there are 4 or 5 welters that have a real shot & couldnt be counted out, Duran of Montreal, Hearns in an immediate rematch, Basilio, Napoles for starters.

    I was going to mention Duran but with just 3 meaningful fights in the division and not many others i wasn't sure he was an all time great of the division per the ask of the thread. Whitaker's pushing it too.

    Hearns was the best ever at 154 IMO & I think he could outpoint Ray in a 12 rd bout but 15 rds gives an advantage to Ray because he is a bit grittier when tired & naturally tougher, if he didnt stop Tommy again there`s a chance he could snatch a close one on points by finishing the stronger fighter in the championship rds + I dont see Leonard giving away as many early rds as last time trying to outbox Tommy, I think he`d want to make it a war type fight a little earlier tbh.... its not just the man that lost that would have learned a few things from the 1st fight.

    He doesnt really need to have had a great WW career to be included, its a one-off fight, his best night as a 147 lber could be enough to include him.... personally I feel the Leonard of the Duran II or Hearns fight would beat Montreal Duran on points but that Duran certainly CAN be mentioned.

    For the oldtimers- Tommy Ryan, Jack Britton, Ted Kid Lewis,kid Gavilan ,would have a
    shot to win because of their skills and vast experience...they had more than twice as much bouts than Leonard...
    Sidenote=Of course Sugar Ray Robinson,without doubt ...

    Tommy Hearns would have beaten Ray nearly everytime over 10 rounds IMO.
