No one's trying to claim all "latino's" as white, but some of them, including some Mexicans, clearly are, and should therefore count as white fighters, not something else because they come from a south American country. My understanding of it is "latino" can be applied to anyone from south of the U.S border, but what people really mean when they say it are the mixed people who are unique to that part of the world, not white (Sergio Martinez) or black (Edison Miranda) people who are also from there. Martinez, I'd say Israel Vasquez, Julio Cesar Chavez Jr, Danny Lopez and a few others wouldn't look at all out of place in Europe, any or all of them may have a splash of Indian blood but it doesn't show enough for me to think of them as something else. Obviously no one's going to claim guys like Barrera, Morales, Marquez et al despite them having Spanish blood and Spanish names as it's clear just from the look of them they're something else entirely.

Tszyu is from Asia. He's was born and raised in Siberia (the Asian part of Russia), his dad was Korean, and his name clearly isn't Russian.

Like I said before, Latino isn't a race. Caucasian, Asian, Sub-Saharan African, Native American and Aboriginal are races, and last time I checked, those were the only ones. There are plenty of Latino fighters who are predominently Native American (Barrera, the Marquezes, Morales, Ponce de Leon who's 100% Native, etc.), but there are some who are white or black or whatever else.

I had a friend once who was born in Mexico, but his dad was originally from Germany and his mom was originally from Spain. Dude was lilly fricking white. Should he be some other race because he was born in Mexico? Or how about the millions of Mexicans who are descended from the Spanish, Austrians or Irish? Or how about Sergio Martinez, Argentine, but both of his parents were from Spain?

Or going the opposite way, should Sumbu Kalambay be a Caucasian because he's from Italy?

Like I said, it doesn't really matter much to me, but if we're counting as white someone everyone knows is at least half Asian (and arguably 100% Asian, since his mother wasn't even ethnically Russian), then why not count a Latino who, based on looks, appears to be majority European descent?

All these lines are pretty arbitrary anyway.

For sure since the Queen of Spain hired a bunch of Portugues (Magellanes) and even British to do their fighting. But we definitely got the corrupt govt from Spain.

Believe i have many friends and family (Mex,Mex American) that are as light complected and even lighter or so called "european" looking like you say Martinez,Chavez,Vasquez look like and none of them consider themselves Caucasian or european. If i saw there lookalikes in person Lopez is the only who i might mistake for a for a white guy(latino features though).

    What?!

The Spanish did not do their own fighting? Where do you get this garbage? Portugal had too many wars of their own to be giving soldiers to Spain and England was Spain's arch enemy. I am sure there are a few instances of English and others fighting for Spain but they were a minority. Spain's soldiers were hardened by centuries of fighting the Moors and did not need anybody's help in the fighting department.

And as for the corruption. Spain is corrupt by Western European standards but it is way cleaner corruption wise than most of the world.

    Please don't make history up.

And no, I am not Spanish.

The Spanish government at the time was not that great.

They were just sucking out the resources of the island, without wanting to educate the population.

Just make money off of the islands, and keep the locals poor, illiterate and uneducated.

Never really made any schools for the average/poor people, never really cared for them to improve. Well, doing that would be to their advantage, to control the people, but not good governance.

300 years of occupation and they never even got to make the majority of the locals speak fluent spanish.

At least the American government after the Spanish, they taught the locals the 3 R's and make colleges and schools for everyone.
