Dmlisicous, I agree personally, but some so called experts put him there not me. I brought that up to disqualify all those out there that say he's too old. If he's too old WTF is he doing on the P4P lists.

Nice to know I wasn't the only one thinking that.

Golden Boy have made Calzaghe a large offer so if the fight doesn't happen it'll be Calzaghe who's ducking Hopkins.

Yes I do think Calzaghe would win at this stage.....but that doesn't erase the 10 years of **** all that Calzaghe has had up to now. I mean people are saying he'd P4P number 2 on the strength of mostly ridiculous defences with only 2 real challenges, Lacy and Kessler - neither of which had exactly defeated stellar opposition before they faced Joe. Yes Joe would probably beat B-Hop now, but would he have done it in 2001-2002? I doubt it, same with Jones, Joe was making all the right noises in post-fight interviews but then running away from the fights, and he made a habit of it.

I'll freely admit I don't like the man, I think he's a **** who's career is all smoke and mirrors - and that's an accusation I couldn't ever level at Hopkins, Jones, Johnson etc.

They already offered Calzaghe $16 million to accept the fight, what more do you expect him to do?

Please, do you think Hopkins-Calzaghe generates enough money to give either guy a 16 million dollar purse? Hopkins would have to take a big pay cut to give Joe 16 million, and that's not happening.

The issue is that the fight isn't going to generate enough for that kind of purse, so it's obviously bull****. Hopkins would be well suited to make 12 million dollars here and Joe would make 8, American of course. Those are very large purses anyway.

16 million is absurd, that's a DLH opponents purse, not a Hopkins opponent and Calzaghe even at this point is not well known to the casual american fan, even if his status is growing.

Exactly, also as far as I remember it was Calzaghe who is rumored to want a fight with Clinton Woods and no one seemed outraged about that decision, now that Hopkins is rumored to want a fight with the winner of Jones/Trinidad everyone is pissed?

I doubt they would've mentioned this officially if it was absurd, also no one heard anything from Joe's team yet to confirm that it's absurd either so it's best to remain patient till an official announcement is made by both on who the next opponent will be. If it's not Hopkins vs Calzaghe then an official explanation will be there.

Let's think about this for a second though, Hatton's making 10 fighting Floyd and Floyd is making 15 fighting Hatton, both are much bigger draws than Calzaghe and Hopkins, so where is the money for Calzaghe's 16 million coming from?

Is Hopkins going to take a big paycut? I don't see that happening.

I don't know why they would have mentioned it, but it's evident that Calzaghe-Hopkins doesn't draw enough money to give either of them 16 million without one of them taking a paycut, and that would have to be Joe of course, since Hopkins would just be taking this fight for money anyway as he has no chance at age 43 coming up.

Perhaps they meant the entire purse is 16 million, that'd make a whole lot more sense.

Yes, but this fight would not, especially in America, where Hopkins is only a moderate draw and Calzaghe's not a draw at all. It'd be basically impossible to get JC 16 million dollars unless he was fighting someone the size of DLH in celebrity.

Does that make sense? It's got to be bull****, because it's not possible.
