It's best that he gets a wake up call now then latter, at least he will learn on this fight and take a fight at a time.
with respect gaz mate...i dunno about that....he showed fook all bottle or heart....look at the way cleverly dug deep and on his second wind even deeper last week....if it was a fight where he technically was found wanting maybe, but it was more than that, he just wasnt himself at all....and even in the interview he had no heart about him, he was just accepting what happened, just mentally surrendering when warren was saying forget about cleverly now... before this i have seen exactly the opposite with him...i'm very surprised to say the least. based on that showing cleverly would finish him, and i mean finish him...he'd never want to box again if cleverly gets at him in that frame of mind..
I actually think this fight will be a good experience for Bellew. He looked like he ran out of ideas after Plan A failed and from there it was a little difficult to watch as he looked really uncomfortable and, dare I say it, Bellew even looked slightly embarrassed with the way the fight was going. Hopefully all of the premature talk of a fight with Cleverly on this forum will now subside and people will realise that both guys are at different stages of their careers. No offence intended to Bellew, but I think he needs to take stock of this loss and not get ahead of himself and I think he realised as much in the post-fight interview. It's much better that this sort of performance came now than at a later point in his career. Less 'smashing' and some more controllled, well-thought-out 'bashing' is the future recipe for success, IMHO. Great post-fight interview by Bellew as well. Made no excuses, was completely honest and he gave Ajisafe all of the credit he deserved. I'll still be watching and cheering Tony on whenever he's next out and I'm more than confident that he'll make the necessary changes he needs to make as he steps-up the level of his opposition. Best of luck, Tony. We all know you've got it in you to succeed:bbb.
Fair enough Doug, you saw the fight and I didn't so you'll know what went on a damn sight better than me!:yep I'd guess he was 3 or 4 fights from a Cleverly world title shot before this fight....sounds like thats gone out of the window.
Bellew knows what happened. He showed afterwards he was a class act, but I think his pride and confidence will have taken a real hiding tonight. Only my opinion of course.
At the very least he'll have learnt you can't knock 'em all out and you have to work for your openings once you get to a certain level.
dunno about that. Blamed Ajisafes style for the poor performance and said he never thought he would go 12 rounds at light heavy.
I think he will learn loads by watching the tape over again. He didnt do any bodywork tonight which is 'money in the bank' when it comes to long drawn out fights. Was quite surprised that none of the commentary team nor his corner mentioned anything about the lack of shots to the body all night. He will be back next time with something to prove and I suspect he'll do it in style. With that sort of power and good stamina (proved tonight) he can certainly do some damage in the division and for all his faults tonight there was nothing that cannot b sorted in the gym.
well....he said he was an awkward ingle fighter who liked to spoil, which is true. but he also said he was a good fighter and gave him full credit. i thought he made the 12 round reference regarding the weight?? as in he never thought he'd be able to do 12 rounds at light heavy because of the difficulty making weight? maybe i got that bit wrong
I agree with Doug and Rob. I hate this "hes an Ingle fighter " business. Bellew knew he was an Ingle fighter yet went in there with no plan other than loading up the right hand. When Bob was still there after 3 rounds he didnt know what to do
Clev won't even bother now IMO. Tonight was his get-out clause, and I for one. Can't blame him. Tony was dire. He will attempt to make the adjustments now, but I can't see Warren pushing for this fight now. Got the rounds in no doubt, but I think Tonys reputation will take a massive step back from this. He now has to go 'the normal route' IMO. A real shame, and probably just due to overlooking Ajisafe. As I said at the start, this was clearly the start of a big push to get this rivalry really big. Damn, that's it then. All that we've discussed, deliberated on, mused on etc etc gone in 36 minutes. Will Bellew improve? Most probably. Is he '****', overrated, shot lol because of this fight DEFINITELY NOT, these things happen.but he won't receive a big push now IMO. It's the monotony of British,Commenwealth fights now IMO, not good for a 27 year old who had psyched himself up for more. Really like Tony, a top lad and a gentleman. But he has so much to work on IMO No **** fights though. A top domestic fight next time out, if he's going to make adjustments it should be ASAP, not in three fights against Eastern European Wet Paper Bags and undersized Africans. A good, disciplined performance against a McKenzie or McIntosh will redeem Tony immediately IMO. Before it was not a case of 'if' but 'when' we were going to see how good Bellew is. Now, for most, it's 'exposed' :rofl Tony needs to shrug off any disappointment, realise what he did wrong and try and make amends. If he can't, he can't. He's not 18. But if he can he can push himself back into contention for decent fights. The reason this is so disappointing is because of the Clev angle. Any other prospect but it would be seen as a good learning fight, but for a former 3 time ABA champ who has mixed it with big blokes, the fact he was knocked over and failed to get Bib out of there means there are lots of ???'s surrounding Tony. I'm still behind you all the way Tony, but stop thinking you can blast everyone out just by swinging :good
