I'm all arms and i'm too stiff. Just cant seem to loosen up. Dont worry i'm not expecting any magic answers from u guys. Just wanted to get it off my chest cos it pisses me off.
I was the same and spend every day shadow boxing and jabbing the bag in time you will start to feel more confortable. just pop the jab what ever you do should it be walking round the house to taking a **** it will come.
The amatuer style of being side on makes it hard to put any power into your jab. Boxing with your shoulders slightly more square on will allow more rotation on the jab but the trade off is you are a bigger target.
Cheers guys. I've been hitting bags on and off and going to a boxing on and off for a couple of yrs, only started taking it seriously a couple of months ago. I wont be able to compete tho cos of my lenses. Im blind without them
Start everything you do in shadow boxing, pads and bagwork with a jab, and make sure your coach is watching you. When the technique is right then you start making it snappier, it takes a long time.
How is your stance? Where do you hold your lead hand? I hold mine where my thumb is on my cheek and the knuckle of my index finger is on the outside of my eyebrow. The power on the jab comes from the snap on the end of it, so keep the target at the end of the punch, and keep it crisp. I think of it like a snake ready to strike, it snaps straight out from the shoulder, then recoils right back to position. If you want to increase the force behind it, step into it with the back foot pushing forward.
I hold my hand slightly lower. Cant give you an exact place as its costantly moving but its around my nose.
dont practise jabbing hard all the time, start of practising a loose jab with proper technique and build up to a hard fast jab
