Is this a golden era for british boxing?

I actually think all of those could get a form of the world title at some point. From what I've seen so far, only Gavin will become a top p4p fighter.

 

Saturday night fights and great match ups so far this season. It is certainly looking up. Don't think Sky have put on one boring fight yet - Murray, Bellew, Burns, Mag 7 were all quality.

 

i turned me nose up at degale to begin with, but i have to say now, he is very good.

 

No one on that list has nurtured their talent enough o be special. Gavin is the only one who looks the goods so far.

All of these guys have some really sloppy work and will only step up a level if they show us more intangiables. Much like Froch is not a world class operator but with a solid chin, good power and the ability to be in the fight until the end means he has surpassed his actual technical ability.

Chisora, Cleverly, Bellew, Groves and DeGale have potential but are still very sloppy.

I think the majority of British boxing coaches are terrible and it goes into the amateurs.

 

Thing is despite how talented they all are on that list Khan has achieved more now (at a younger age) than most of them will have at the end of their careers. Khan will probably be the number 1 Brit for the next 6/7 years, streets ahead of any on that list.

 

Khan has been very well matched bar prescott ...but any boxing fan worth his salt can see just how good this guy is ! .... Have to agree Khan will be number 1 british fighter for a good few years .... if not a P4P great in time ...

 

Every age would have been golden if there had been multiple world champions at each weight.

 

Cleverley, DeGale, Gavin and Chisora have a chance. The rest may falter i'm afraid.

 

Im certain Gavin will be excellent, possibly P4P and Cleverly will win at least a world title. The rest, im not sure.

 

Don't think any of them will be top 10 P4P tbh. Think Amir is our best chance of cracking into the P4P list. Not sure why he always gets left out of these type of threads either. He is the goldenboy of the golden generation.

No not yet. Those dudes you mentioned are some of the best in Britain but it's too early to say they will one day be the best in the world. This is no golden era yet. Forget about those guys, they could be the future, but the present is Khan, Froch and Haye. Three world class fighters from a small place like the UK is not bad going, but they haven't excited the public like Eubank, Benn, Naz and Lennox.

 

This thread might be a little soon. Lets wait and see if any of the mentioned names takes a world title and if Khan and Froch win their upcoming bouts.

 

The talent we have coming through at the moment means we could very well be on the verge of a Golden Era for British boxing.

But at the moment we're not in a golden era. We have some fantastic prospects, 4 top fighters at world level and a few more at Euro level who are on track for world titles. Exciting few years ahead for British boxing, that's for sure.
