I just read Manny Stewards comments about Cintron on boxingtalk I wasnt that impressed with Kermit before I started working with him." Funny, I have Kermits fight with Teddy Reid on tape. Manny Stewards final comments "I was VERY impressed with him!" I have seen all Cintrons televised fights, and some of his early bouts. What I saw was a fighter develope very strongly. Leading up to two signature wins over Ring Magazine rated top 10 opponents in Reid and Elio Ortiz. Granted he fell apart against Margarito, but once in the ring its the fighters job to execute the gameplan laid out in training camp. Since Training with Manny Steward Kermit has yet to face a legit top 10 guy. Pretty amazing how he won a title and is making two defenses without meeting a top 10 opponent. Yet everyone says Kermit is new and improved. In my opinion its quite the contrary. He looks to have regressed. I sawa highlight video of him on his old trainers myspace, and I was far more impressed with that version than the washed out version I see now when he fights. Struggles with David Estrada and Mark Suarez??? Please. He was better with his old Team.
You really need to compare apples to apples. You are watching him train before, not fight. He looks much better fighting now than he did before. If you dont believe me, get yourself some older fight tapes of his. He is a much more complete fighter now. Marshall did what he needed to do with kerm against the guys they were facing, but now, as kerm steps up in competition, he needs manny steward. Relying too much on his right hand is what got him in trouble with margarito. looking good in training is easy, which is why i find it funny that people are so impressed by floyd on the speedbag. i mean, if he was entering a speedbag competition i would be impressed, but he is fighting a guy that punches back, therefor im not impressed. ive been following cintron's career for years, and believe me when i say he looks much better and much calmer now.
I understand where you are coming from, but under Manny Kermit has yet to face a legit RING Magazine rated top 10 opponent. David Estrada, Mark Suarez, Walter Mathyse, and Jesse Feliciano NEVER broke the top 10. Kermit went life and death with Estrada and for the first time that I ever saw he was visibly hurt! Suarez gave him problems and of course he caught Mathyse early. You say Kermit relied on his right hand to much? Well he knocked out Elio Ortiz with a left hook. Elio ortiz was Ring rated top 10 at the time. Also given your support of Many Steward... what do all his fighters rely on?? THE RIGHT HAND. Lennox, Wladimir, Hearns, McClellan. So you are arguing against yourself there. As for watching his older fights. Of course he got better as his career progressed. But all you need to do is look at the two fights he had with Reid and Ortiz. Both of whom were top 10 at the time of those fights. Kermit produced highlight knockdowns and ko's in both those fights. His connect percentage with the jabs was very high, so was his overall connect percentage, and his opponents connect percentage was extremely poor. Thats not opinion... its compubox facts.
Kermits offense if much more fluid. He doesnt telegraph his punches like he did in the Reid and Ortiz fights.
Ok explain to me how he maintained such a high connect pergentage in those fights if his punches were so telegraphed, and tell me why he struggled so much with Estrada and Suarez if his new offense is so fluid. Did you just get done reading his quotes on the site?
He use to paw with his jab and just leave it out there, a very dangerous thing to do. You say that I seem big on steward, butI am actually bigger on cintron than i am on steward, cuz i have known cintron since we were both kids. The reason he hasnt faced top 10 competition since bringing in manny is two fold: 1. Everyone thought he was done after marg and he's had to fight his way back into the picture, and 2. Manny has rebuilt him as a fighter and you dont want to put him in there against top tier competion while you are still rebuilding a guy. And even if kermit hasnt gotten tons better skillwise, which i believe he has, certainly the confidence that he exudes by having manny in his corner is an immeasurable benefit. Also, manny does love fighters with big right hands, and he encourages them to throw them, but only when it's there. He teaches guys to jab jab jab until the right hand opens up, and if it doesnt, just stay patient with the jab until the right hand is there. It's not just Bombs away. Estrada and Suarez are better than Elio Ortiz, regardless of any rankings. Cintron did look shaky at times during the estrada fight, but he was learning a new style and it was a big fight for him, career wise.
The problem with Steward is that he takes away everything but the jab and straight right. Wlad had a beautiful left hook. Cintron also had a good left hook. It's gone now. Jab jab jab jab jab jab straight right. Jab jab jab jab jab jab jab jab jab straight right. Jab jab jab jab straight right. Jab jab jab jab jab jab jab jab straight right. Yawn.
uhm, werent you part of his old team? what are you doing dude...? d u just want people to trash him? if thats what this is about, its a bit childish...
i believe him, only cuz he gave us his myspace and i know who joe pastore is, and i know that kerm did live with him, etc. that being said, i dont think it's fair to drag kerm through the mud without him here to defend himself.
