Why would an athlete really wanna choose boxing over a type of team sport ?

It's not the competition. It's that no talented American athlete is entering boxing, not when he can make much more money, get much more *****, and become much more famous, all without risking brain damage, by going into America's biggest sports, basketball, football and baseball. If you'd ever lived in America you would understand the culture - or lack thereof. Boxing is shunned.

you mean boxing culture, or culture overall? because america has lots of culture. it's a big country with all sorts of people, a true melting pot at the end of the day. it's just our government and overconsumption that make it seem like we lack culture

Just a matter of individuals being in shape and doing well. Can't say that even if Americans got down to business they'd ever dominate the Heavyweights again. It's very global, now.

All of the best American heavyweights have been destroyed by Eastern Europeans. The same thing is happening in other weight classes too. Eastern European fighters are superior.

Soviets weren't allowed to turn pro until the 1990s because of the cold war.

Now Soviets are allowed to turn pro and we're already taking over boxing.

This is just the beginning of the Eastern European domination.

    The NFL/NBA excuse is weak.

There are tons of potential Eastern European Heavyweight Boxers who are doing Combat Sambo, MMA, Kickboxing, Hockey, Olympic Wrestling, Olympic Weightlifting, Powerlifting, Worlds Strongest Man Competitions, etc.

America isn't the only country on the planet that has other sports.

Heavyweight Champion makes more money that any other athlete.

Vitali Klitschko Vs. Chris Arreola Vitali Klitscho Vs. Chris Arreola Sept. 26 on HBO drew the highest rating of 2009 for an HBO World Championship Boxing telecast.

I think what it coems down to is poverty.
All (Or most) of the great champs in the past came poverty stricken areas, at first it was Irish immigrants, then Italians and then Black people. This has slowly shifted to eastern european countries where there is a lot of hunger and poverty, for some people boxing is a way to escape (and it always has been). Thats why u see more succesful eastern european boxers, because they simply want it more. In future i see an increase of arab, asian and african boxers after the eastern european domination, because there will be more poverty in these areas.

Same old rubbish again and again, i dont hear euro posters time and time again complaining most of their potential prospects are playing soccer/football, which takes a huge portion of athletes in many euro countries from middle to light heavy
