I scored it watching it a day or so after it happened I believe I had it a draw or Kotenik by a point, I remember Witter winning the first part of the fight easily and then Kotelnik winning the second part just as easily.
I don't think much to your scorecard, Kotelnik got clearly outlanded in several of the rounds you gave to him. The Kotelnik trumpeting has gone a bit crazy, he catches a load of punches on his gloves yes but still gets outlanded and people still give him the rounds :huh
I just thought Kotelnik looked better and landed the better shots. Witter was fighting too negative in the later parts for me to give him rounds. I score on effectiveness so even if a guy throws/lands more I still can end up scoring for the guy with that landed the crisper, harder shots. Just my opinion. Fights like this will always strike alot of different opinions so we can agree to disagree I guess lol.
Problem with Kotelnik's style, which will probably always be a factor in his fights unless he adopts a more aggressive approach, which you might say he did to a degree against Alexander, is that he spends too much time shelling up and allowing the opponent to get off, dictate the pace. When you are allowed to get off first and dictate the pace it can appear that you are more effective than you actually are, which is most probably why Alexander got the decision over him.
Good, good point gooners!!. I thought Devon Alexander clearly won the first 4 rounds with just his activity & Kotelnik not doing much if anything at all. Though I thought he finished & won more rounds overall later on you still shouldn't give your opponent those early rounds that easy. Not good to start yourself off in a fight trailing in an early lead even if you pull out the W.
Nice assesment. No, I don't think Kotelnik got robbed but even though I had it for him the fight could've gone either way.
Agree. I mean normally, you would attribute a slow start to a fighter trying to get into his rhythm, and this my tie in with that, but unlike a pressure fighter who likes to get cranked up before he is at his most effective, Kotelnik is a guy that likes to counter off the front foot, so maybe getting his timing down is why he started so slow, or maybe he just showed Alexander too much respect?
I do think he had no confidence in winning at first but when he found out how bad he was making Devon looked he changed his mind. After that he gained confidence in himself and was fighting to win.
Yeah that sounds plausible, it did look as though he lacked a bit of belief early, like he was just there to make Alexander look good. Gotta say, that new trainer has certainly had an impact on him imo.
Kotelnik was the negative fighter for the first 5 though mate and he was hardly that aggressive after that but I had him winning 6-11 Kotelnik is basically a worse version of Clottey, going into a shell being very hard to hit clean and throwing about 15 punches a round of which 14 are jabs and most but not all land.
