Hi just joined, started getting really interested in boxing the last couple of years, the Irish scene in particular.

I saw Acosta's highlights last night and he looked good but was there anyone there who saw how Garcia looked? Fighting a guy like a record like that at just 23 and just 9 fights into your professional career takes guts and it refreshing to see as opposed to most of the British and Irish prospects who get mothered by their promoters and managers.

I saw Garcia at the Lee - Thiam fight and was really impressed, in the extended highlights of his more recent fights available on youtube he looked very impressive also. He's an absolute beast of a man and I for one would love to see him up against DeGale although I can't see DeGale taking that risk.

I will admit though I am only 19 and only started following boxing properly in the last few years. How do some of you more experienced boxing heads rate the three Cuban lads, Acosta and Garcia in particular?

I can honestly say he is the weirdest looking person I have ever seen close up his hair appears to be made of dyed Brillo pad his skin has been creosoted and his teeth soaked overnight in Domestos.

ps I live in Donegal so have seen some weird ****ers in my time.

Good point, but my point still stands that Mccloskey has done more at lightwelter to deserve his chance at the title than Khan did, and on that basis alone deserves his shot.:deal

Totally agree with you here Nutter, as much as I like Dunne, he did **** all to get a shot at Cordoba if we're talking about fighting rated opposition, then you have guys like Jason Booth who was shown up by Matthew Marsh at British level and was lucky the fight was stopped on a cut yet there's not a word said about him getting a shot at Molitor's title. Why should McCloskey be any different? He's undefeated with the British and EBU titles to his name. I don't understand what is wrong with the man looking for a title shot?

I cant speak for the other lads but its frustrating I see how talented mccloskey is that talent is wasted fighting the likes of barry morrison he should be fighting lads in atleast the european top 10 if not other fringe world ranked fighters Patrick Lopez would have been a nice opponent last night....

no matter how many smileys you use in your post that is simply the worst argument.

Khan was an Olympic silver medalist and already a world champion with the WBA at the lightweight when he got his WBA light welter shot.

Fight someone decent and then go looking for a world title shot. If he gets one I will support him, like I did Dunne, doesnt make it right!

Claiming that mullering a bag of scrap like Morrison gives one an "indisputable" right to a world title shot is a pretty embarrassing thing to say to be honest

I agree Morrison was a poor opponent for a European title fight and McCloskey does need a step up but he is just as deserving of a title shot as the likes of Booth, Burns, etc. Any idea what's next for him, is he tied to this Lauri rematch or what's the story?

I'm on nowt, wish I was but aint been out of the house all weekend. Apologies, he was the WBA international champion.

*gulp* made a **** of that alright!

But the argument that just because Khan got a world title fight he didnt deserve doesnt mean that McCloskeys right to a world title fight is beyond dispute.

Do you think Khan deserved his world title shot?
