Which Boxers never really need Trainers?

Mayorga..... no way he gets taught by a trainer with the technique he uses lol

 

Jermain Taylor's trainer never helped him. And if your Sikh, your the first Sikh boxing fan I've ever heard of.

 

Well i think he needed his trainer, who was his father, to make him into the machine he was. But yeah, if you mean Alton then he didn't need him that much, maybe in some tough fights to give advice in the corner only..

Same with Oscar De La Hoya..

Floyd certainly needs Roger to be in the corner for him becouse he is so insecure realy.. Always asking that: Did i win the round??. And much more.

 

Hopkins is the first fighter that comes to mind. He smart enough to go out there implement his own strategy and make the proper adjustments in a fight on his own.

Roy Jones Jr., to get started, needed his father. The rigorous training his father put him through turned him into the monster that he was in the ring. However, once Roy got experience as a professional, I think he probably didn't need a trainer so much. It's not like he was being told in the corner, "Alright Roy, this round I need to see some triple left hooks, leaping lead rights, spin some circles around the guy, and flurry at the end of the round." Once he was in the ring he just knew how the handle whatever situation came his way.

Bernard Hopkins, to me, is the smartest man at figuring out plans on his own and implementing them. Start to finish, Bernard plans how he wants things to go, and the mental toughness he has comes entirely from himself.

But even they I'm sure couldn't deny at fight time it has to be nice to have an experienced and trusted set of eyes on the outside of the ropes watching for advantages to take.
