I'll pick Diaz over Guzman. Considering the size and aggression of Diaz plus the defense that he uses, All Guzman can do is run all night.

Popo isn't slick. Not to mention he was finished after fighting Chico, his heart was gone. If you don't think Guzman's style will give Diaz problems then you don't know boxing.

    Did I say that?

Where the **** did I say Guzman's style wouldn't give him problems?

I made another thread about this **** earlier.

Don't tell me what the **** I do and don't know.

I just know that mother ****ers are tryin to say that Diaz doesn't have handspeed.

    Those mother ****ers are blind.

    By the way DIAZ UD.

Diaz is good. Nobody respects him because he doesn't have 1 punch power, but the guy is good.

If Guzman lays on the ropes, he's ****ed.

If he sticks and moves, he might still be ****ed, but could get away with a decision.

It's a hard fight for BOTH of EM!

Sorry man, I gotta disagree. I don't think the problem is my post so much as your reading comprehension.

First, Juan is a big lightweight. A big superlightweight? When's the last time you saw Juan at 140? You think he's the same size as (or bigger than) Juan Urango?

Second, he has been hitting harder of late. Good for him. He's slowly winning me over actually, I was unimpressed with him at first but have had my tune forcibly changed. What measure of comparison, though, do you have agaisnt Guzman, who has adopted a style that does not involve a lot of sitting down on his punches? Since everyone seems to agree that Joan is draining himself down considerably multiple weight classes below where many feel he belongs, even if Juan were a natural light welter they'd be in the same neighborhood in size and strength. They have different kinds of build, both however are very strong. The best you can say is it's a question mark. If Joan committed to planted, authoritative power punching, would his power be the same as Diaz's when he does the same - at the same weight? We don't know. My instincts say yes (and that Joan's purported "feather-fistedness" is the result of a conscious decision to utilize his skill to score points instead of knockouts in the kind of pure boxing display few are capable of). Yours clearly say no. C'est la vie. Time will tell.

Third, where did I say Pacquiao would outbox Diaz? Where? Please...highlight in my post where I said that? Put it in bold text for me. This is where I think your reading comprehension was a little lax. What I said was Pacquiao, when frustrated with opponents who find ways to negate his explosiveness (with Barrera it was a tactical non-engagement style, with Diaz it would be his beard) he tends to box - and clearly that would favor Diaz with his workrate, as Pacquiao (though he's improved greatly over the years) is NOT a world-class technical boxer on par with a Freitas or Julio Diaz. It's not a very winnable fight for Pacquiao really. Diaz likely isn't getting outhustled, outmuscled, outlanded, or starched in that fight. Now before you cite this as an inaccuracy (I said in the previous post that Pac's speed would make for a good styles matchup with Guzzy while Juan's would not)...it should be noted that Pacquiao has the edge over Diaz in hand & footspeed and raw explosive power (in proportion to their respective weight classes anyway...Pac's pop at LW is still a question mark). However, Pac fights in explosive little bursts. Diaz does not jump in and out, he plods along throwing and throwing and throwing tirelessly. Pac does not sustain that kind of pace the way Diaz does, that's why he gets solidly outworked. He eats up pressure fighters who walk into and crumble under his power - Diaz won't. He'll walk in and throw, throw, throw.

I'm not really biased towards Guzman. He's a fighter I've grown to like and respect in his last several bouts. I'm certainly not someone who was deluded by his early career as Little Tyson and holding out hope that he'll replicate that at higher weights. I became a fan because of the slick boxing/counterpunching style in the latter phase of his career. I also like Pacquiao quite a bit. And as I said earlier, Baby Bull has been growing on me. There's no favoritism in analyzing matchups between the three. I actually was really personally torn (heart, not head) when Guzman fought Soto because I like Soto and think he deserves a shot at a Pac or JMM just as much if not more than Guzman. It was apparent before during and after their fight, however, that they were in two different leagues of skill. The only question mark was how Joan's chin would hold up if/when Humberto caught him. And while yes, he spent a good deal of time making Humberto miss, as with Barrios who can also punch, it's not like nothing clean landed - and he was never really in dire straights when anything did. So with that missing piece of the puzzle, my confidence in Guzman reaches new heights. He still hasn't faced a puncher quite like Pacquiao however, so that is what brings suspense to a prospective fight between them. I admire Guzman, but do not feel I have any unobjective bias toward him. I do feel the need to defend this incredible athlete against accusations of running, when he makes just as many forays into the pocket and wings more power shots than FMJ (he's just fast enough to get out of there before paying for it - that's a credit to him, not a cause for complaint by fans). I mean, hell, you'd think he was Andre Dirrel the way some people have been putting him down.

I won't argue that Diaz and Pacquiao are both more exciting fighters on their own (as far as being all-action) than Guzman. As a styles matchup, I personally think Guzman-Pacquiao is more of a headscratcher and therefore more interesting. If Guzman's chin is going to be tested/cracked, it'll be by Pac at SFW, not Diaz at LW. Diaz has a clear enough styles/physical assets edge over Pacquiao that it does not interest me as much. Likewise Guzman has the style and tools to make a fight with Diaz at LW less unpredictable than a fight with MP at SFW.

His handspeed is well above average for a lightweight. Eye-catching but not mind-boggling. Both Guzman and Pacquiao have amazing handspeed at 130.

Joan cant punch and Diaz just throws combos all night long. Joan likes to step aside, slap and move. make you miss slap again and move he throws no combos, thats it and has no power. Diaz walks through this guy no problem. Diaz can fight.
