Never down but got my nose badly bruised at the ridge, to the point i thought it might be broken, and the sparring stopped there.

I also gave out a nosebleed and a bruise or two though, so what goes around comes around where sparring is concerned.

All i'll say is do not spar unsupervised with a friend. I don't know other people's experiences, but i did and we took it way too seriously.

We both hurt each other but were refusing to acknowledge it to prove are toughness and save face. I ended up with a week long dull headache and a trip to the doc!

Like other's have said though, sparring only takes place for you to learn. If you dont feel your learning anything, and/or your just getting beaten up on a regular basis, give yourself a break from it. And when it's your time to face the newbies, have a heart!

    so true!!!

ive been buckled once by an uppercut. and i usually dont go too hard or too soft. usually cause who i sparr are smaller people, but when i do get the chance to spar other people my size or larger i go all out.

Still haven't ever been down, though I've been rocked a few times so I guess that counts as being floored, depending on who you ask ;)

I've only dropped other guys twice. One was a left hook to the body as I slipped a right hand. The guy fell right over, we called it a night, and he went to the locker room and threw up.

The other was a left hook counter to the chin (right as he hit me with a left hook). That one was a weird feeling--I leaned into him after I hit him (he was on the ropes) and his body just slid down the ropes to the floor like it had shut off. He wasn't out though, the coach gave him a a few seconds to recover and let him continue, but he was like a zombie after that so we just jabbed it out for the last 20 seconds. We were talking about it after and he couldn't remember much--he thought it was a right hand to the temple lol.

I've definitely absorbed my fair share of beatings though. My coach used to wait till I was on the verge of going and then have the other guy back off. So if it was 100% sparring, I definitely would have gone down from accumulation more than a few times.

I used to spar one guy who would try to make sparring a war everytime. He wasn't that fast but he could bang hard as hell. One of the times we were sparring, I was in the middle of a combination and somehow he caught me right on the chin with a straight right hand. Made me dizzy as **** and buckle quite a bit. Didn't know where I was.

I try to work on something when I'm in there, but it seems like everyone else wants to go balls out.

Trainer always tells me not to unload because I hit too hard, but he never tells them to slow down and not flurry on me... so occasionally I have to throw something big to back them up.

I'm a newbie. Probably only done 4 rounds so far.

    What I've learned:

    1. Getting hit sucks.

    2. I'm slow as hell and out of shape.

    3. I have good power. (nearly dropped someone with an overhand right recently)

    4. Everyone seems to want to go hard, instead of work. I figure they just want to feel like a badass beating up the bigger new guy.

    Some quality stories on here.

I find it difficult to believe a word of any of this though.

    cynic!

on a different note. what about when we have dished it out. best punch / combination landed?

mine was against a pro kickboxer / ex marine and hard ******* tho he really didnt like body shots got him on the ropes, slipped his right hand and caught him wth a sweet left hook to ribs and then doubled it up to head which clipped him on chin and left him wobbling all over ring.

prob my most picturesque moment against a decent opponent.

I was preparing for my first fight and felt totally underprepared and that I wasn't getting the sparring I needed. I went for some sparring with a mate who was a more experienced and a lot heavier, with only 14oz clothes and no headgear. I got rocked hard a few times, I didn't go down and my legs didn't go but they were sickening punches. I had headaches for days afterward, it was then that I realized that they have weight classes for a reason.

To add insult to injury I ended up badly bruising my hand throwing an overhand right in the same session and had to drop out of my fight.

LESSON- Unsupervised sparring without the proper equipment is foolish and dangerous.

I had to take a knee from a hard body shot, left hook to the ribs/liver/wherever it was.

One head shot where my legs went for split second and I lost my balance, fine a sec later though, quite a good few times to the body.

Last sparring session i got lucky that the guy was going easy on me. Whenever he drew a hook, he went all out and those cept scratching my nose and at times chin. That was scary. Pulling back away from a jab and out of nowhere a left hook barely crazes mt chin.
