    Shouldnt have opened my mouth!!

Poor stuff from McCarthy. Wrong tactics, wrong attitude and no discipline.

2 gold, 1 silver at this stage is what I would have expected. But with Gallagher getting the silver, not McCarthy

He is only 19 his time will come. I think by London he could well take the spot in the Irish team and have a great chance of getting a medal if he continues to put in the hard work.

I missed all the boxing this morning but just caught McCarthy's fight and also the medal ceremony with McCarthy and Johnson.

Johnson fought brilliantly, he is tough, great uppercuts and bodyshots. McCarthy will learn from it and he did great to win a silver at the age of 19. He looked absolutely gutted at the medal ceremony but all the NI lads were outstanding and the experience will stand them in good stead.
    :good

Well done to all the medalists - Paddy Barnes is a class act!

Dont get me wrong I'm not writing him off. Just saying that his inexperience showed.

Think he was also lucky that it was 0-0 after round 1 because Johnson was landing lots of uppercuts and they only started to get scored in the 2nd and 3rd rounds. Johnson is a tough cookie and landed some meaty body shots and looked immense in the semi when he stopped the Welsh lad.

Final round from Barnes was sheer class/perfection.
Gallagher pulled off a shock beating Smith as well. The boy showed great heart and hunger and ability as well of course.

Gotta be proud of the boys. Same again from O'Kane and Ward please :bbb

Does anyone know if Setanta are showing the Bute fight? Cantona usually pops up to let us know..

I checked my sky planner last night but there was nothing there

Well done to the boxing team. You would never know how many we will get to the London games in 2012 but thats is were we will win most of the medals. I would hope to see a fighter in every weight class but that will be very hard but we will have maybe 1 of the strongest teams ever if they all keep healthy.

Great job by the lads 2day o'kane was brillant in his captins preformance, and the best thing about this team is that apart from o'kane they are all under 22/23 and should only grow from there experiences here and with good funding some of them will be on the podium at london 2012, amazing games from all 9 of the boxers made us proud!!! :)

I hope Paddy Barnes goes pro straight after the olympics before its too late,he would have a lot of big time promoters after him and with his pedigree he could move up fairly fast through the ranks
