Credit to both of them for taking this fight if it comes off. It`s a good step up for Degale, but his lack of rounds could be a problem.I pick Degale to win a clear UD and to overcome some tough moments for the first time a pro.
At least Smith wont freeze like Dilks did and we should not have a dodgy early stoppage in this fight.

Got to give DeGale a hell of a lot of credit going into the lions den against a proven British champion in his 9th fight.

100%. You reckon Groves would go to Liverpool to fight Smith??

If he comes through this its time for everyone to stop getting on his back just because he's a bit cocky and start getting behind him because we will clearly have a talent who is prepared to take the tough fights.

I don't rate Smith but he is one of the better British champions out there.

I actually do. I think he and DeGale have the same type of mentality. If it was up to him, he would have fought DeGale next.

Dilks was like a deer in headlights. No way Smith is going to stand still and let DeGale have his fun with him, especially in front of a home crowd. We’ll know exactly what Chunkys made of after this fight.
If he wins, he'll probably gatecrash the top 10 rankings of the WBC and WBO. (Smith is 5 with WBO & 8 with WBC)

How can Quigley and Dodson both have been bad stylistic matches? They're both polar opposites. Quigley is fairly awkward so I'd give Smith a pass for that but there was no excuse for all that holding against Dodson. Dodson is more or less a textbook reasonably schooled kind of boxer, nothing unusual about him.

The fact is Smith has no infighting ability so he just holds. The common denominator in these bad fights is Smith.

The whole reason why smith is fighting degale is that frank warren couldnt get groves for degale.

2 years ago i would have argued to death with you, but smith still needs to prove himself as a euro class fighter because he cant keep scrapeing through the likes of quigley and dodson. i think smigga will have a lot more success against degale tho because i dont think degales defence is all that good, but on the flipside, degale could box his head off in and out all night. all depends on which paul smith turns up!!

Smigga is a war machine the likes that DeGale has never been in with!!!

I will give degale credit for taking the fight, and will take him more seriously win lose it draw, as long as we dint see a dirrell performance. Tffp, the reason there was hardly any in fighting in the Dodson and quigley fights was because the two respective fighters know what smith can do on the inside so held and grappled him to ****. I will concede smith was a little guilty but no where near as much as the other two

For the record tffp, IMO I reckon you are showing yourself up. As someone who has admitted not having seen much if smith, and not knowing much about him, it is quite some assertion you make that smith can't fight on the inside, not actually knowing his abilities. On the way up he was known for his spiteful jab, and left hook to the body. By smiths own admission his favourite shot is the left hook

Smith would have been lucky to ever get beyond British level, this will be the biggest fight he ever has

Smith oh man I used to really rate him. But how anyone in their right mind can go with him after his last 2 fights needs to put down the special brew:nut and he cuts so bad now :patsch
