22yo Luis Garcia, the most talented of the 3 Cubans living and fighting in Ireland, will face former 2-time SMW champ Byron Mitchell. The 36yo veteran lost his 2nd title in a very close fight to Sven Ottke and knocked down Joe Calzaghe before he was stopped in the 2nd. It the past few years he also lost to Richard Hall and Otis Griffin, as well as to another fighter with just a few fights on his resume, now-LHW champ Beibut Shumenov. The fight will take place on November 6 in Limerick. Also fighting on the card is Alexei Acosta who is now listed as Alexei Collado on Boxrec.
i think acosta is the best of the 3 but this is a huge step up for garcia in oly his 9th pro fight cant wait to see it
BTW, the Olivera fight was supposed to be at SMW if I am correct, but Garcia came in at 173. Does that mean he isn't going to move down to the hotter 168lbs division?
Nice step up for Garcia. I'm curious to see how he does when he goes against competition that won't wilt though. He's super aggressive in the ring so far, and while I know he has the skills to box, I'm not sure whether he'll actually do it when he needs to.
In any case is a big step up for any 22 years old kid with only 8 fights, I haven't c too many prospects fighting a 2 time world Champ on his 9 fight.
