Two of the best clubfights of the early 1980s

John Collins vs John LoCicero - Chicago Irish vs Chicago Italian - half Chicago turned out to watch this one - ethnic brawls are still the best

Frank "The Animal" Fletcher vs James "Hard Rock" Green - two old school Philadelphia middleweights going at it - one writer said Fletcher looked like a starving Philadelphia hobo pouncing on a sandwich

Nice shout out to that scrap. Just checked it out on Youtube and the whole thing is damned exciting.

Check out Moorer's interview at the end... "Bert was a tough f*ckin' guy, man." Classic.

I disagree, the first 3 or 4 rounds aren't that great with Gatti outboxing Ward and keeping him off, but Ward closes the gap and then starts hurting Gatti, then the fight becomes exciting! Round 9 is the best round of boxing I've ever seen (it shares that title with round of Hagler-Hearns though). The fight is great, not overrated

To the letter of the subject, "what fights have the reputation of being the most exciting", we've always read that the first two Zale-Graziano fights had no peers. Of course, film does not appear to exist on them today, only the third. Another I read about back in the day but never saw was the bout between Caveman Lee and Johnny LoCicero. For a clubfight it was said to be intense. Of ones I saw and have not been mentioned here would be Carbajal-Gonzalez I, Danny Lopez-Jose Torres and Muniz-Palomino I.

Its a great fight, but not among the greastest of all-time. Ali-Frazier III, Pryor-Arguello 1, Bowe-Holyfield I, and Barrera-Morales I. Those fights were more or less all barnburners from start to finish. Gatti-Ward I never took off into a frenzy until after 5 rounds, thats half the fight.

Totally agreed, the 9th round was memorable.
