Do any of you respect Brock technically?

Technically? No. But, a man with his athletic ability can become fluid in his movements. If he accomplishes this, becomes lighter on his feet with snappy punches, look out!!

Right now his striking and especially strike defense are very sub par.

 

I've got tremendous respect for his wrestling ability, and his ground game also seems to be coming on by leaps and bounds.

His stand-up, not so much.

 

I have no respect for his stand-up game, which I view as completely inadequate, amateurish, and horribly flawed.

I have enormous respect for his wrestling credentials.

 

Most technical abilities are exponentiated by athleticism in MMA. BJ Penn's BJJ is an example, as is Brock's Wrestling. He certainly has the pedigree in wrestling.

Wrestling is very reliant on explosiveness and speed, which Brock has very naturally, so of course he's incredible at what he does. I wonder how well it holds up over time, if Cain, or anyone can withstand his onslaught to take him into deep water.

 

he is a damn good wrestler..you cant do that just on strength. I leanred that when i first trained mma....going in as a 220 pound grown man..and finding out i was struggling with a highschool kid who was 140 at wrestling (he was a top in the state wrestler, i never wrested..boxed and lifted for years though) so clearly brock has great wrestling techinque..if it was just strength, then mariuz pudiniski would be the best wreslter in the world.

 

Any man who moves with that speed at his size deserves props.

though I'll admit i'm starting to like the guy in general with all those interviews, the jackass WWE Brock Lesnar is really starting to fade away, good for him.

 

Wrestling and grappling is excellent, his top game is particularly good. Striking is obviously terrible. Has pretty good instincts and knows what he's good at and what he sucks at.

 

Yes, because he dictates where the fight takes place, he wants a fight on th ground where his skills can be used, anyone who can do that is technically gifted.
is he in the top 20 technically rounded HW out there... probably not, but he is one of the best HW wrestlers, and most of his fights end up there.

 

I neither respect him as a fighter or a man.

 

Brocks wrestling and ground game is over rated. Lucky for him is that he fights second rate fighters in the UFC who are neither the best on the ground and the best standing up. Brock should really step up and fight the best and most proven HW fighters in the world.....who are all in Strikeforce.

 

Brock's takedown success rate is 67%. That's despite facing a former olympic alternate in Couture and a division II champion in Shane Carwin. Obviously takedowns are stuffed now and again, but its beyond idiotic to try to pretend that Lesnar doesn't have great takedowns.

 

As I striker I dont respect Lesnar very much but ive seen alot worse strikers win major Championships in MMA. On the ground he showed me some things vs Mir in the rematch and vs Carwin. In the 1st Mir fight he wouldnt go chest to chest and that allowed Mir to scramble around or roll for things in the rematch he really put on the pressure which didnt allow Mir to be able to move his hips. 3 most important things in Jiujitsu are hips, base, and space and Lesnar showcased that in that fight. With the Arm-Triangle Choke vs Carwin it was solid technique alot of big, strong guys might just try and squeeze the choke from mount or even from the starting side without moving to the opposite side. Brock showed real BJJ technique by getting over to the far side, flattning out and then moving slowly away from Carwin to make the choke tighter.

As a Wrestler you have to respect his ability and his credentials. Of course being so large, strong and athletically gifted has helped him but to make it to the level he did as a collegiate wrestler you better have some technique. Its kinda like RJJ with Boxing yes his speed and reflexes did alot of the work for him but he needed to have some skill to win Championships in 4 weight classes.

 

If you watch him shut down Mir's guard in their rematch, you have to give credit to the skill in his top game, that was not just pure strength.
