It would be a backwards step because beating Duddy should be enough to get Lee the big fights (in the US), which is exactly what he wants. If he was to beat Duddy impressively he wouldn't need Macklin, he could use the exposure to propell himself into a world title fight over there. If Macklin gets the Sylvester fight he's been looking for or manages to pick up any of the other belts then Lee would be mad to turn the fight down but as it stands now he is simply going in a different direction, not ducking.
It was widely reported that Rogie left Breen. Rogan did gas at the end of the fight, no doubt about it, but he didnt do any sparring for the fight due to the injury and had only gave himself 6 rounds before the injury would flare up. He gambled that he would stop Sexton before six rounds, but in fact, he should never had been in the ring. He should have got his injury sorted out first. If you look at the last round of Sexton II, Rogie couldnt hold his arm up, it clearly shows how ****ed his injury was, every time he was getting hit on the chin it triggered a nerve that shot down to his arm - forcing it to drop.
The fellas I know live in the same area as Rogie and they said he was out at night partying and drinking between fights. They said Breen got frustrated with him and that was it. I can't remember the details but his training camp after he left Breen was supposed to have been fairly poor from what I remember. The easiest thing in the world after losing or ****ing up is to make an excuse. It happens in all walks of life and we all do it at some stage. Rogie should have cancelled the fight if he was injured. I like the guy but I think he let himself down and making excuses for it doesn't make him look any better.
Yes, he should have cancelled the fight - that was his biggest mistake as he didnt do himself justice. I still hold the view that the biggest factor for him losing the fight was his injury. The evidence is there. I do not want to speculate on his pre-fight training as I dont know the truth, but there are two sides to every story and if Breen and Rogie (both of whom I have full respect for) ever want to publicly reveal what happened then I think it is their place. To go back to the original post I made on this, it still surprises me at how little casual fans know about the seriousness of Rogie's injury. In that context, Sexton's win is over valued and we didnt see Rogie fight to his full potential in the second fight. An explanation of this, is not an excuse, but it will illuminate the most significant reason why he retired early from the second fight.
Steward on Lee, from main site His assessment of Andy Lee’s two recent knockout victories against Michael Walker (TKO8) and Troy Lowry (TKO4): “Well I thought he fought very well in both of his recent fights, and the fact that he said he wants to fight if he could sometime in the next two weeks. It’s very refreshing to have a fighter that wants to fight that regularly, and the guys he fought were not complete bums, either. We’re right now finalizing details on a fight with him and John Duddy. I was in New York and we’re trying to put the finishing touches on that. It’s interesting and could be just a good match-up without even a title, like Mickey Ward and Arturo Gatti. The chemistry between these two, it’s like fighting for the bragging rights of Ireland and New York so to say, because Andy spends a lot of time in New York. We’re trying to get that together and hopefully it will take place in late January or February, and there should be an announcement in the next week or so related to that. So hopefully it will be the talk of the holidays since unfortunately we don’t have any hot fights that I know of right now that’s been made or signed which I’m a little bit frustrated about that because going into the year I’d like to have something. I'd agree that Lee and Macklin are best kept apart, for now. Let Lee fight Duddy and if he can impress then see what happens.
