My prob wit people on this site dont even know that hopkins decline happened at the joppy fight!!! He never ever showed signs of tiring at all until that fight. Hops underestimated calslappy and still won in the process(my opinion). Joe lypsy, antwon echols, glen johnson, segundo mercado etc. Thats just a few of the fighters that possibly be great if hops never destroyed these fighter while in his prime. Hopkins is a damn Legend and anyone who puts cals on the same level as hops or even equal to hops is not a true boxing fan and deserves to be put in the bias category. Watch hopkins early fights and see hops doesnt tire and believe me calzaghe would of gottin koed if he even tried to fight a prime hopkins and i saw cals early fights and he truely didnt look that good at all!!! Seriously i thought he would of been better then that but he really did get better as he got older.

i gave up reading this thread on the 2nd page because it was clear that the thread was jam packed full of ignorant, narrow minded HBO / RING PUPPETTS

i'll just leave you you a few facts

1 - hopkins got offered a $3m career high pay day to fight joe calzaghe in AMERICA in2002. hopkins ducked calzaghe and fought hakkar instead for $700'000

2 - instead of taking on the calzaghe challenge, hopkins continued to call out lower weight fighters like de la hoya and mosley :-(

3 - american fans are that narrow minded and ignorant about anything that doesn't happen in america that they thought that hopkins fighting robert allen for a 4th time was more credible than fighting peak calzaghe :rofl

4 - hopkins spent his career making fighters fight way above their natural weight when matched against him, eg, de la hoya, trinidad, wright, pavlik were all dragged way above the weight they peaked at :dead

5 - hopkins deserved credit for a 2 weight jump v tarver though in truth tarver is a b-level fighter who had his ass kicked by 14 defeat glen johnson and harding. american fans think fighting a weight drained rocky actor is more credible than fighting calzaghe

6 - calzaghe fought hopkins inbetween what was considered 3 of his best wins by his delusional fans - tarver, wright, pavlik :deal

7 - calzaghe fought hopkins in america - on foreign territory

8 - calzaghe fought hopkins in his 1st fight at light heavyweight

9 - calzaghe fought hopkins with a corrupt referee who did everything in his power to give hopkins a chance of winning

10 - despite such advantages, calzaghe beat hopkins by decision - 116-111, 115-112, 113-114 :deal

11 - hopkins has lost to the only 3 top fighters he ever fought at a fair weight - jones, taylor, calzaghe :deal

12 - joe calzaghe retired unbeaten. he never ever lost a professional boxing match. there is no blue print how to beat joe calzaghe

    46 fights
    46 victories
    0 defeats
    0 draws

Hello. My name is chris and I'm a Calzaghe fan. (round of aplause)
Although I feel Joe deserved the verdict when they fought I've allways felt Hopkins was the slightly better fighter regardless of weather he wins/loses against Pascal. (and I think he will probably come up short)
    Better skills and record.

yes. this thread is about hopkins though so save me the duran, leonard, hearns comparisons cos i accept them, even though leonard and hearns went on to win world titles above the weight they fought hagler at unlike de la hoya, trinidad, wright, pavlik.

i also think that head to head hopkins gives hagler a very good fight. however, this doesn't change any of the facts i wrote above.

Who the hell if Pascal, is he the fighter who beat an unmotivated lazy Chad Dawson?

Funny how when Dawson was calling out Hopkins.....Hopkins ignored those callouts by pretending Dawson did'nt exist.

The one thing that Hopkins did not ignore was the fact that Dawson was unmotivated and undertrained vs Pascal........so here is his chance now to beat an inferior fighter and want to get the credit as if he could or did beat Dawson.:nut

Hopkins was too afraid to fight Dawson, but as soon as Pascal got the victory......."ooooh, ooooh, I want Pascal!"

Calzaghe fans are already saying Pascal is another small victim for BHop since Pascal moved up from SMW.

 What a joke post. Calzaghe has a better resume than Hopkins and beat Hopkins when he was Ring LHW champ and P4P #3, sandwiched between Hopkins best wins of Tarver, Wright and Pavlik.
Lets not get carried away if Hopkins beat Pascal. Pascal was a fighter who lost to Froch who lost to Kessler, who guess what, lost to Calzaghe .
Pascal has a couple of good wins over Diaconu, but Dawson was a complete hype job and I openly predicted Pascal would win by posting a thread on the subject.
In answer to the question. No. Hopkins will always be behind Calzaghe in greatness.

Live with it and except it, that Hopkins LOST to Calzaghe :smoke

    5 wins of - Calzaghe
Lacy - Hailed as the next Tyson but could not live upto expectations, Prime
Eubank - former champ, highly rated, past prime
Kessler - highly rated and Prime
    Hopkins - P4P top 5
Reid - Robbed against Ottke on a night he should have been crowned a unified champ, Prime

    5 wins of - Hopkins
Glen Johnson - Prime, went on to lose a good few of his SuperMiddle Weight bouts.
Felix Trinidad - 40-0, Fighting two weights above his prime weight
Antonio Tarver - The legitimate (#1) lightheavyweight, Prime
Kelly Pavlik - 34-0, Fighting above his best weight
Winky Wright - one of the most awkward fighters around heavily avoided, fighting above his best weight.

Any resume can be twisted to what someone believes:good

Hopkins didn't destroy Glen Johnson's career because Glen managed to have a good time in '05. Echols & Mercado could've gone on to get belts but unlucky for them they ran into Hopkins. Both guys could CRACK. Joe Lipsey retired right after Hopkins and it really isn't certain what he would've gone on to accomplish he might've been a hypejob but who knows? Lol, I don't care for Calzaghe's style either but the man is a legend I'll give him that just he's not on Hops level.

Pascal's movement bothered Dawson more than anything. Lets not forget that Dawson is a bad finisher so most likely had the fight gone on it would've gone the distance. Hopkins would've been a cherrypicker had he demanded for Dawson after the Dawson/Pascal fight but instead he wants the winner so I'll give him props. BTW, are you being sarcastic? lol.

You could just go by facts. On Lacys win resume is Tsypko, Reid, Vanderpool, Williams, Sheika, Pemberton & Manfredo. Now what active American SMW overall has a better resume? Yet Joe beat him easily.
Eubank wasnt as past prime as many would have you believe at 31, consider he had only lost to Collins twice and the 2nd time by SD, yet Calzaghe came in as underdog and beat him convincingly
Kessler has won the WBA & WBC title since losing to Calzaghe, even when unwell

Johnson lost almost every time he stepped up, and look at some of the guys he has lost to
Tarver had lost to then 9 losses 2 draws Johnson :patsch (now 14 losses), and was having to lose additional weight from filming Rocky
