- Mayorga - Cintron - Chagaev - Wright - Pavlik All have well and truly lived up to the hype this year.
You said, "...so far," so I voted Pavlik. My real answer is the winner of Mayweather vs. Hatton. If Mayweather wins, he beat De la Hoya and Hatton in the same year. Hard to argue against that. If Hatton wins, he beat the best fighter in the world. Hatton could've fought anyone earlier this year and deserve the honor if he knocks off Floyd.
Sure as hell not Kelly Pavlik...for beating Jermain Taylor!? Pavlik is the weakest contender on that list.
Jermain Taylor was champion, and considered #1 in the division. Pavlik knocked off a top contender, and then the division's best. I wouldn't say he is the weakest on the list. Joe Calzaghe is the top of the division. Hard for him equal Pavlik or Cotto in this regard. Mayweather won a megafight, but he was considered boxing's best going into the fight. Win over Hatton would give him this honor though. Cotto can be argued as beating two of his division's best, but did he really do that better resume wise than Pavlik? I like Mosley more than I do Taylor, but beating Taylor is a bigger feat at this point when you consider Taylor's age. I'm spending too much time on this post.
