EXACTLY Mike! and those slaps and flailing arms are UGLY as FUK!
Any REAL boxer with solid technique is used to facing REAL boxers who throw proper punches.

Joe just bum rushes his opponents and endlessly scratches at their eyes while screaming in a high pitched shriek.
To his credit, Hopkins deflected or ducked most of that fluff and ran as if he were running from his emotionally charged wife.

What :huh, if I was that biased, wouldn't I try and assert that Joe was actually hurt? I know that, but that goes without saying, however when you do have, what I believe are defensive issues, the % of hit happening to you, are heightened.

    He would, wouldn't he.

    1) Calzaghe won the fight, no question in my mind

    2) If Hopkins had beaten Calzaghe it would have been a great win, one of his best, and would have added to his legacy in a big way. Calzaghe was undefeated, undisputed 168lb champion, coming off probably his best win. Sure he was coming up in weight, but Calzaghe himself thought he would suit light heavy

its just my opinion that if hopkins was younger, he wouldn't have fought so stop / start, and disrupted calzaghes rhythm as much. i think if hopkins had of traded more, it would have played into calzaghes hands and left himself more open for calzaghe to outwork him. that is calzaghes great advantage in boxing, he will trade toe to toe all night and take a fighter way out of their comfort zone.

to me, hopkins fought calzaghe at the perfect stage of his career where he used the perfect tactics to hold, foul, feign injury, headbutt, and take calzaghe out of his rhythm but it still wasn't enough to beat calzaghe. i genuinely don't think hopkins ever had enough at any point in his career to beat a fighter as good as joe calzaghe.

    SHEEEET!!

I'd much prefer head butts and low blows to that scratching-at-the-eyeballs, ugly ass technique, if you can call that flailing, technique. I can't think of any other boxer in history with as uglier technique as Calzaghe's, but it just came to me that I should've been looking closer at female boxers for comparison. :bbb:rofl:rofl

the truth is hopkins was scared to trade with a man who slaps with brittle hands :deal

the truth is hopkins ducked a prime calzaghe in 2002 when he could have fought calzaghe for a career high pay day in AMERICA and instead wanted to call out welterweights like de la hoya and mosley and take on hakkar and robert allen for a 4th time :deal

Inspite of spending all of his career defending against opponents who threw straight or looping punches, Hopkins did and excellent job against a rare one whose slaps rain down raking the top of the head, across the forehead, into the eyes, and down the face. Joe cuts by raking the string and tape across his opponents face.
Still, throughout the whole fight, he landed absolutely noting of significance on Hopkins. Joe thinks he's wolverine or some shet.

i was at the fight and there would have been a riot if joe didn't win the decision. the real losers were everyone that had to watch that fight. it was such a crap fight that i'm not sure how much it would have helped bhop's legacy. next time someone talks about calzaghe being great, watch this fight. all joe was able to do was move his hands and not land anything effective vs a 43 yr old fighter while bhop landed the harder shots but hardly threw punches.

I count Lacy as Joes best performance and best win. The same people that try and belittle Lacy now are the same ones that were swearing blind he was gonna KO Joe before the fight.

    "he's ****, he can't punch ****!!!"

Joe won the fight... I don't see how there is any controversy about this. That's the negative about fighters like Hopkins and Toney, they lose but they always feel if they finish the fight or don't get drop, they have won the fight:lol: Joe clearly was the man in charge and Hopkins was just trying to win an award.

If Hopkins had won it would have catapulted him resume-wise. Joe was p4p #2, undefeated, and younger. Only one weight class smaller. Bigger win than Trinidad by far.
