This really isnt that big of a deal, especially given the time still left to make 160.

Why are you guys surprised at Paul's weight? He's always that size.

Paul I expected. I really doubt Martinez normally weighs this much 30 days out. Is there any info in his previous 30 day weigh ins?

Man many of you have never actually been in a boxing gym or around a fighter while he trains .. Most guys walk around much heavier than thier weight class limit when out of training or during the first half of training. Completely normal. The weigh in was probably fully clothed as well

You all are overreacting. He is quite certainly going to shed another 6 to 10 pounds or so over the coming month, which will put him right around 166-170. From there assuming he does it safely, losing the last 15 pounds or so of water weight will not be difficult at all. He will rehydrate back up to the mid 160s no problem

Any that has ever boxed, or wrestled will know that cutting 20 pounds is not unheard of. There are SAFE ways to cut weight.

Unfortunately too many fighters follow arcane methods of hyper dehydration and this drastically effects their health and performance.

I think Pwill is gonna win anyway, but this news is an added boost.

Is this his usual walk around weight?

That has to be a mistake. It simply doesn't seem possible, he was 167lbs on fight night vs. Pavlik, and it's unlikely that he walks around LHW between fights, and you wanna tell me he's a LHW weeks into camp? If it is true, then he's taking the wrong approach, growing into 160 is not very smart when Punished cried himself a catchweight, the limit is almost 20 pounds off. Of course it's possible that Maravilla weighed in with clothes on, after a meal and drink and before visiting the bathroom, but still sounds very high.

Last time pwill was interviewed he said he can make 147 still easily. he said he has to eat like a madman while training to stay at 160.

That's how Martinez looked about a month ago. A bit heavy maybe, but it doesn't seem like he was carrying 20 extra pounds back then. After a month in camp, he does?

Williams is a freak! If he can still make 147lbs, then damn, I hope he gets a major fight there!
