All part of the big fight hype mongering, mate. Like when Rampage fought Hendo, hyping him as a PRIDE champion; it's in the best interests of the promotion that is staging the matchup. It does the UFC no good, and therefore Joe Rogan no good to admit that Shields' performance against Kappman was anything less than dominant, it is the reason he was brought in after all. And it's not grossly corrupt, either. After GSP schooled Alves at 100, people were calling out Shields as the best WW challenge to GSP in the sport. It's a good, legitemate fight that I want to see WAY more than a rematch with ****ing Koscheck!

I honestly dont know how any can watch Shields fights. He's about as exciting as a can of paint. Going to be interesting to see how he stays at 170.

The UFC owned Pride at that stage though. Usually SF, Dream etc are labelled "the smaller org".

As a hardcore fan I want to see GSP vs Shields because Shields can grapple and knows that is where his bread and butter is. I would love to see GSP stuff his takedowns and show his grappling is on ANOTHER level. Alternatively, Shields striking sucks so he can knock him out and show people he will still stand in the right fight.

I find him exicting to watch when he has a huge advantage in the ground game as he just trashes the guy and submitts him with high class BJJ. Seeing him agianst other really good ground fighters like Kampmann or Mayhem is boring as **** because he does little else but lay and pray taking few risks.

If you know what you are watching Shields is exciting because his grappling is high level. When he stalls it is boring. He also doesn't take the risk to strike more and harder. He goes for subs but he needs to do damage.

Joe Rogan is a ****ing expert !!!!

The man is a black belt in Taikwon do , think thats how you spell it ?? :huh and a former student of Eddie Bravo , regularly roles with some of the best fighters in MMA and has been known to spar with them too !!!

Id say that qualifies you to commentate on the sport , he brings a passion to the commentary that is irreplace'able IMO and yes sometimes he does get carried away but ultimatley , i think he's perfect for the UFC

Joe Rogan at his best was Koscheck vs Thiago , thats Paulo Thiago , there is Rogan banging on about how Koschecks stand up is so good , and actually said he is the 2nd coming of Chuck Liddell in reference to him using his wrestling for keeping fights on there feet , then ultimatley knocking people out , just as Rogan starts to say that Thiago is way out of his depth on the feet , Thiago knocks Koscheck out !!! ****in brilliant , but thats Joe Rogan for you .................. he's very excite'able

I used to like the combo of Rogan , Goldberg and Couture , with Eddie Bravo scoring the rounds unofficially !! Frank Mir for me is the best commentator in MMA , the way that man breaks down the technical aspect of a fight is just mezmorising , he's like a scientist , he'd be perfect for the role ................

Right now the UFC has the equivalent of one commentator... Goldberg has the voice and the presence; however, he is woefully lacking of any knowledge of the sport. On the other hand you have Rogan who usually has a good amount of technical knowledge; but a limited vocabulary (how explosive is this fighter Joe?) and a voice that makes you want mute the TV...

Good commentating requires at least two commentators; as of now we only have one split between two people. So yeah, I agree with Hughes.

I like Rogan, we could do without Goldberg though. Rampage would make for some interesting commentary!

I think Hughes is angling for Rogan's job.

All this talk about Rogan being a company man is irrelevant because the UFC would NEVER hire anything but. All in all Rogan is a good commentator despite his shortcomings, he is a good bridge between expert and the man in the street. As a Brit who knows **** all about wrestling and BJJ he has improved my understanding of grappling and BJJ more than anyone else as he has a habit of explaining and describling what the guys are trying to do instead of just shouting the name of subs etc.

I think Goldy is there to represent the clueless ****wit, just saying stupid **** in order to be corrected and fans are educated by those conversations. Now MMA has gotten more popular and the fans are, on the whole, more educated his time is up.

I'd be down with that. Frye seems like a pretty cool dude.
