Don't compare these two pretenders with two of the greatest welterweights of all time. PBf and Pac would have been lucky to make it into the top 10 at 147 during that era.

Here's a novel idea. Ignore Karceno and let him fade into the obscurity he deserves to wallow in.

Okay -- here's a non-hater, non knee jerk reaction, response.

I do not think Pac or Floyd could have successfully moved up through so many divisions back in that era.

At 126-135 they would have had to deal with guys like (in no particular order)
    Bobby Chacon,
    Danny Lopez,
    Alexis Arguello,
    Alfredo Escalera,
    Cornelius Boza-Edwards,
    Ray Mancinni,
    Livingstone Bramble,
    Ruben Castillo,
    Jim Watt,
    Rafeal "Bazooka" Limon,
    Ernesto Marcel,
    Salvador Sanchez,
    David Kotey, et, et, et.

These are some of the guys they would HAVE to fight, and they would have to fight them in 15 rounders in an era when there were only 2 world titles, and same day weigh ins. There is no ****ing way Pac and/or PBF would make it through more than a couple of divisions in that era. And that means neither would ever fight at 147.

theres a lot guys on that list I would favor Pac and Mayweather over and most of all the top atgs at 140 too. 147 and above Pac and Floyd are out of their leagues in the old eras.

Actually I'd favor Floyd over most of the guys on the list. My point wasn't really about winning or losing. It was about the freaking wars Pac and/or Floyd would have to go through at 126-135. The level of competition was such that I doubt if Pac would ever venture past 126, or Floyd past 135.

Really good article. Gives me a little bit of hope that this fight may happen.

When people retire, appreciation grows. Manny and floyd will be rated as high as Hearns and Leonard when they both retire and the dust settles.

Could this also mean we might have to wait 8 years for a fight to materialize? Or does that only apply for a rematch?
