To me a catchweight title fight says "i'm the best in this division up until a point" It taints the title.
If it gets a good fight made, I could care less. As long as it isn't for a vacant lineal title. A meaningless paper title, like the one Martinez dumped means nothing to me. And if the champ and contender both want a catchweight for a title fight, again, it doesn't matter to me. They don't care.
As long as it's within the weight range, then why not? But no to BS like fighting for two weight class titles in one fight.
i think it does taint the title a bit too, its up to fighters to agree to it too. if they do then fair enough, but i think that the boxing federations that distribute the belts should enforce the law a bit more
I hate catchweights as they seem foolish and show a lack of confidence in the fighters who call for them. Taylor looked foolish calling for the catchweight on the Pavlik rematch and Pavlik looks foolish for calling for a catchweight to fight Vera. It REALLY seems lame when a title is attached (Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather need to know this).
