I spar with another heavyweight at my gym who's a pro who's had a few fights. I've also sparred with a cruiserweight pro. They're definitely better than I am, but I still hang in there with them and can be competitive with them at times.
I don't know what he's saying but I find it hard to believe his story about sparring with Mike considering the age difference between the two, although I'm starting to believe that he did meet Mike at some point recently. I think he's trying to spin a real photo into street cred for himself by making some stuff up about him sparring with an up-and-coming Mike Tyson because he knows that there's no way for anyone to verfiy any of the info at this point.
It was fun last time I did. He had to focus on his D so I could punch with whatever punch I liked and he had to defend. I hit him with bombs (I wasn't afraid because I knew he wasn't going to punch back anyway) and it didn't even faze him. Granite chin. He was fairly easy to hit but I just couldn't get rid of him no matter how fast I danced/moved on my feet. He was in my face all the time. He and his coach gave me compliments afterward that I had a good jab and power.
That is EXACTLY what happened to me and boy did I learn fast. Sparring with a pro is nothing though, they hit noticably harder but they aren't in there to smash your face in. Most times they'll want you to pressure them so they can work on defense and movement, or they'll want you to box at range so they can work on getting in close.
never sparred with a pro, but sparred with two very decent amateurs from former USSR. The Russian guy was a douche- as he was older and outweighed me by like 30lbs it was supposed to be a 'light' session, but once I clipped him a couple of times (nothing major, more annoying than anything) he lost his rag and pretty much beat me into submission in the next minute or two:-( ***. Other dude, a Ukrainian- I sparred a few times. He beat me every time but said I was a very awkward and difficult fighter for him (he's a southpaw). It was weird as he DESTROYED another guy we used to spar with every time and I had 50/50 success with that dude myself. I guess styles make fights.
Unless he's Roberto Duran, 'n whether you're a novice or experienced pro, he'd try to pound you senseless from bell to bell. He wasn't interested in honing tools; he was a rabid dog.
