This weekend. Anyone suggesting that Bute would be a challenge to Calzaghe at this point in Bute's career is obviously a Bute fan.

He has average to above average speed, gets hit with a lot of unnecessary punches(especially someone of his prospected calibre)is hesitant to take the fight to his opponent, instead being comfortable with countering all night long, has a nasty habit of backing straight up when pressured, and THINKS TO G-DAMN MUCH. Everything is processed in his mind about 5 cycles before he lets his hands go, knowing what he wants to do, but second guessing himself. You can see the wheels turning when he's fighting. Not that it's a bad thing, but 'instinct' definitely isn't his game - and with someone like Calzaghe, who'll be on him from the opening bell on; Bute would get eaten up and spit back out.

I think Bute is a decent boxer, who possibly could turn into a great boxer, given enough time.

He has to many flaws for Calzaghe to exploit. Kessler would also dismantle him imho.

After Calzaghe leaves the 168 pound division, that'll leave Kessler/Bute, possibly. I would love to see the fight, but I just don't think Bute has what it takes to beat Kessler.

Style-wise, this fight would be interesting.

Anyone agree about Bute? Or am I missing something 'special' about him?

Bute and Carl Froch should face each other first before facing either Kessler or Calz.

No one is sugesting that Bute is a threat to Calzaghe. And I am a Bute fan. I also believe that Kessler has an edge over him. But if Lucian is smart and builds up some valuable experience he can get more belts after Calzaghe retires. And his speed is top notch.

I've seen quite a few 'suggestions' the last few weeks. This is what lead me to watch a few of Bute's fights.

    Although, I agree with you.

Instinct comes with experience. Bute will get better as he gets more tough fights under his belt.

Agreed.Bute is a long way from the skills of Calzaghe and Kessler.I suggest he wait until they either retire or move up before looking for a fight with these dudes.:-(

Bute is clearly behind Calzaghe and Kessler at this point. But give him time. He only have 20 fights. Calz and Kessler became what they are after 40 fights.

Now being IBF champion, it's time for Bute to cash in a bit, continue to improve his skills and gain quality experience.

Counterpunching is his best tool. He should be able however to impose is wheel a bit earlier in his fights. Time will tell.
