I think the fight is a joke, I've steadfastly maintained I won't pay for or watch it and I intend to keep to that. None of the attempted hype has changed my view.

It doesn't mean that I don't still want to see Haye do well and keep winning in the division, though. It just means I think this fight is a massive farce.

But you're in the minority.

 

Haye's got a problem - he's too intelligent.

We're used to boxers spilliing out cliches, letting their promoters do the work. The "I'll fight anyone, I don't care" sort of mentality.

However Haye knows the game, knows how it all works. Himself and Booth have surveyed the scene, made sure they know the game inside out, and set a path out for themselves. They haven't been shy about it either, and they're not afraid to show their cerebral side in favour of playing dumb. Hatton was the master at being calculating but he played up to the 'man of the people' persona so that people didn't see it.

The problem is when you start ducking fighters and being disingenious, intelligence = calculating. Haye is starting to experience a backlash now and it's because we know he's using the fans for his own ends, in a blatantly explicit fashion. That turns some people off, even if we know he's just telling it like it is.

Well put, I've been thinking this same thing tnoight. The change of opinion is amazing. Suddenly these Rockyesque pictures of Audley jogging in the snow, speaking of the upstart who just took from him+ the usual talking up of his abilities have clouded everyone's judgments.

Audley is going to get stopped even with his shining shield of hype.

I've even noticed people at work, who wouldn't have a notion about boxing talking about this fight, as well as, my mum! :shock:
