Message to Freddie Roach........ Work on Pac's glove defense, cause as of right now, he rarely parries punches, or catches punches, which is most probably why he gets hit with lead right hands, and is open to being stabilized by a fighter with a good jab. Some fighters only! slip punches, which is why Malignaggi accumulates so much punishment, but all aspect of defense require blocking, slipping, catching, pivoting, upperbodymovement and using your legs,
Roach isnt too great a defensive coach and Pac isn't learning much new now and if he does learn it'll go out the window when in the ring at his age
Pac's guard is probably the most underrated. He blocks a whole shitload of punches. The reason Pac looks easy to hit yet keeps dominating opponents is because people have trouble telling when a punch lands or when it's caught.
I think were referring to different things, he blocks punches in terms of, he gets hands up around his head, but im talking about parring, catching more than shelling up.
I just watched an old fight the other night, and one guy's jabs and crosses were completely neutralized by the parrying of his opponent. It was very different from what emmanuel does.
Good recommendation's for team Pac... But I say keep doing what they do, Seems to work great for them. Manny will be alright bro.
Pac wouldn't be fighting at this level against bigger guys if he didn't have defensive ability. Defense is more than blocking punches, or going into a protective shell. Defense is keeping your head down and your chin tucked when you punch. Defense is using movement to get an angle so you can get off while your opponent can't. Pac has mastered these tactics , but like Duran and LaMotta, his offense overshadows his defensive abilities.
His defence is very simple in that aspect that he moves out of range or gets his hands up. He tried to slip punches too much against Clottey and got caught with the most rights hands that came his way.
Agree. He has most of the aspects down imo, like he is good at using his legs, pivoting, slipping to a degree, just that he does not fend punches of by parrying, catching cause his hands are glued to the side of his head instead of having them out infront where he can catch or parry. Its like the Shawn Porter argument though imo, when your moving in and out, using a particular back and fourth motion, you can be timed by right hands, counters, or stabilized by a jab, although Porter does know how to catch, parry, but thats where I think team Pac are missing a trick not getting him to block, parry more.
You guys are totally wrong. Pac does parry punches very often. It's subtle. Saying Roach is not a good defensive coach is ridiculous. You can't be a great trainer if you can't teach defense. Watch Pacquiao's fights more closely and you'll see that a lot of punches that look like their hitting him clean aren't at all. He doesn't have a great defense, but it's solid overall and far better then what it used to be.
