bit harsh, who did u expect her to fight in her pro debut??? we all know it's a publicity stunt so don't let it upset you to much. at least it promoted sunday's fight in the major media outlets
The Age are pointing the finger at Eagle vs Tai as being a joke for pay per view -see article below. Okay it's easy to point the finger at, but at least it provided 6 x 2 minutes of entertainment. What about the semi-main event on the Boxa card not long back - Sonny Bill Williams vs that lard arse Hogan? Or Green vs Briggs for that matter? There's been a spate of recent pay-per-views that should never have happened. Why point at this one in particular? Eagle's pay TV bout 'a joke' by Mischa Merz - The Age- Oct 30th 2010 FORMER waterski world champion, now boxer, Lauryn Eagle has been branded a raw beginner who knows nothing about the sport and is undeserving of her place on Sunday night's pay per view Main Event featuring Daniel Geale's IBF middleweight eliminator against Roman Karmazin at Sydney's Olympic Park. Eagle has been billed as being on a quest for a world title when she has so far had only one fight against a smaller, and much older and inexperienced Kay Hodgson, who was stopped in the first round. ''She's a novice. The degree to which they're pushing her doesn't match her ability,'' said boxing manager Mike Altamura who is responsible for the recent World Boxing Organization lightweight title fight between Perth's Erin McGowan and the United Kingdom's Lindsey Scragg which headlined in the west on October 9. McGowan is a four-time national amateur champion and 14-0 as a professional and has so far had only fleeting appearances on Fox Sport. ''Boxing insiders generally regard Eagle as a sideshow that has nothing to do with pro boxing or the advancement of the sport,'' Altamura said. Other professional and champion amateur female boxers as well as some senior male boxing figures have branded Eagle's match against New Zealander Christina Tai, who normally fights in a division 10 kilograms lighter than Eagle, as a joke. ''I don't want people around Australia thinking this is what women's boxing is all about,'' said 2009 national amateur welterweight champion Tammy Taylor. ''I don't want her representing me and what I do. ''I really don't understand the reason for all the attention. All the media coverage is an absolute joke and it's unfair.'' Female professional boxer and former Australian amateur champion Diana Prazak has said offers by her camp to fight Eagle have fallen on deaf ears. She said she couldn't understand why Eagle received so much media attention when there were ''genuine superstars'' in Australian women's boxing who rarely rated a mention and had hardly been seen on TV.
its beacuse she is smokin hot.. :hi: :bbb
Can understand why Erin McGowan might be a bit down on Eagle for getting on the PPV coverage. McGowan is certainly already the real deal, and bye and bye, aint that shabby herself.
Sarah "Missy" Howitt would punch holes in her. Sarah fought Erin in her second fight losing on points and would match Eagle in a heartbeat.
It is joke this whole thing, she can't fight now and she getting to much press when there is real fighters trying to make a buck out of this sport getting zero. she is just a pretty face. I hope she gets knocked out cold in her nexted fight.
You are spot on mate. I disagree about her saying its about fitness and girls dont hit hard. Ive judged Erin and seen most of her fights and she hits hard.
My comments earlier were not harsh and her hand picked opponent and the joke of a fight on the weekend, again proved that. Why doesn't she want to spar any of the good female fighters? She wants to be a World champ this time next year but wont even spar the best domestic fighters now? lol And if she thinks she'd be saved by the head gear in the Am's, then lets see her step in with some of the Am girls and see what happens, let alone Erin who would KO her in a round. She says what she is doing is good for the sport.... How is fighting bums, having the techique of a four year old and patronising world class fighters good for the sport. She's hot, she can water ski. That's all, we dont need another circus show in boxing. Support the girls who have earnt their chance, not the ones who arent in the top 100.
She's already established world champion water skier. Because of that she has the maturity, mentality, athleticism and competitive edge to pick up boxing quick. To go 6x2 rounds in only her second fight as opposed to amateur 3x2 is a big step up. Christina Tai, even though she doesn't have the greatest record, was quite experienced at 13 fights. I'd put her fight above SBW vs Gary Gurr anyday! She has the looks for being marketable while also getting advice and being trained by too highly ranked fighters Lovemore Ndou/Gary St Clair...Girls like her will succeed because she knows exactly what she wants and knows how to get it. Media is always going to be hype but i honestly think she'll do well...
