No prob. I don't think he was the same after the Sanchez fight, even at 122. But before, he was incredible. Great footwork to deliver those bombs from all angles. Beautiful stuff.
Simply AWESOME Bazooka is my 2nd favorite fighter of all time, relentless, fabulous skills, i always said that he & Duran were similar in the execution in the employment of the left double tap, body/head & then right cross, maybe not as much upperbody movement & feints but in general he never needed it to such a degree as he had devastating KO power at the weight. Wilfredo & Roberto were the types of fighters that ripped the soul out of opponants both were relentless & unstoppable at their respective weights & if there was ever a P4P H2H fantasy match-up it's Duran v Gomez as the 2 most brilliant technicians in the employment & delivery of suffocating violence:deal
SALVADOR SANCHEZ Watching him dismantle Lopez in his first title fight. He was boxing from the Outside, hooking in the inside. Slipping and parrying. Beauty. JERSEY JOEY WALCOTT In his first fight with Maricano, he was banging the Rock around and making him look very foolish, until the Rock did what he does. Although I did not see it, I hear the same that he did to Louis in their first fight and was robbed.
I understand that Robinson is the man. But Leonard is the most complete fighter i have seen in my lifetime thus far. More complete than Hagler and Duran, because he had everything they had but with dazzling speed and movement aswell. I did want Hagler to beat him though. lol If Whittaker had pop he would be pretty close to complete too.
Sugar Ray Leonard had every tool in the box along with having atg great speed, power, athleticism and heart.
I just don't know if you can include fighters like Whitaker, Pep or Mayweather...... They don't have much power and that's a pretty big part of being complete. It's rare someone is the complete package, but SRL really was.
Well, I think that JJW was getting reckless to many time to be a complete fighter. Also his chin wasn't so superb.
Rosendo Alvarez, Will Grigsby, Hideyuki Ohashi, Zolani Poltelo and a few others were all considered to be decent enough at the time, and Lopez demonstrated a wide variety of skills against them.
