http://news.boxrec.com/news/2010/exclusive-adam-smith-set-become-sky-sports-head-boxing I wonder how the man himself would announce this news? :rofl
not sure what to think. Smith is a massive massive boxing fan. He is like us. Just wonder if he is tough enough to negotiate with the promoters in the UK and US.
I think it could turn out to be good for boxing fans, smith is obviously passionate about the sport and hopefully he will tempt to get more good fights on that are often overlooked by sky.
He is a massive boxing fan. However he is a **** poor commentator and has continued to do that despite numerous calls for him to have some respect for the boxing fans and step down from a job he can't do. Ed Robinson has come on and said to all that he knows he is a **** poor commentator so wouldn't do the job. Fair play to Ed. Its a pity Smith hasn't got the same integrity. He was interviewing Naseem Hamed and when Hamed told him he was a complete pratt and an embarrassment, Smith burst into tears. He was interviewing Ricky Hatton after one of his fights, with Wank Warren present, and he asked Hatton, "Will you now be looking for a world title fight, and if you don't get it, will you look at... other options?" Wank jumped in and told Smith there are no "other options" and not to be trying to insinuate things. Smith shut his gob and stood there like a tool. The chap doesn't have what it takes to negotiate with the big boys. Once again he is disrespecting the fans by going into a job he can't do. The quicker he is removed from Sky the better. The guy is an absolute bell end.
Unusually, a lot of what you write here has merit. Let's hope Adam grows a set and tells **** taking promoters to **** right off. Or simply has a huge intimidating minder with him - bring back Gary Mason to the Sky fold! :happy
Hopefully it'll be good for boxing on sky. It's a tough one for whoever's in the job but I guess now he's gonna finally have proper power and should be able to stand up to promoters and get the right fights on tv rather than just afrobum commonwealth title fights.
This is good news. Smith is a **** poor commentator but he is passionate about the sport and a huge fan. Hopefully he can bring us more events, starting with getting Froch on Sky.
I'm willing to revise my opinion of the bloke if he actually does a good job but I doubt he will. I'm always going to say he is a **** poor commentator though. I've had a lot of mates around who have never watched boxing and once they hear him talking shite on commentary they always point it out.
He wouldn't have that job if he wasn't up to it. James Murdoch's a ruthless little ****er - no way he brings in a weak link.
Right the guy isn't the best but this is a bit over the top no? "disrespecting the fans by going into a job he can't do" ??? what the **** you on about.. as if you got the job and someone said "you're shite btw" you'd quit?? It's a hard job presenting and I'd much rather have him doing it for sky than some mundane "presenter" from the sky sports news desk who know's **** all about boxing. Why don't we get some american blonde with big tits to do it because she can "communicate with the camera"??
Although Smith is Head of Boxing, its Barney Francis the head of sky sports who does the deals with promoters and negotiating which fights get shown. Smith's roll will have more to do with the production than actual content.
I mean I'm no expert on these things, but surely Barney Francis would have wayyyy too much on his plate as it is to deal with boxing promoters-he's the head of sky sports for pete's sake. I'd have thought it'd be Smith going out there doing all the leg work, while Francis signs off on anything. Dunno though, I'd have thought Francis has other things to worry about rather than what boxing gets shown.
I think you're right. Adam will act as a filter, surely - Barney Francis can't be expected to know that, for example, the undercard of the Liverpool bill on 11th December could be seen as a load of shite full of home wins. But Smith will.
